Paying tribute to one of India's finest social reformers, the long-awaited biopic 'Phule' is set to release on April 11, 2025, coinciding with the 197th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. Dancing Shiva Films, Kingsmen Productions, and Zee Studios confirmed the news today on the occasion of Savitribai Phule's birth anniversary. National award-winning Ananth Mahadevan directs the film based on the epic saga of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule played by Pratik Gandhi and the role of Savitribai Phule (as his wife) portrayed by Patralekhaa-an inspiring journey of a legendary couple known for their fight for equality and education in India. "This is our humble tribute to one of the greatest son and daughter of India," Mahadevan said. "The film should definitely be a must-watch for the Y-generation; it is so much more than what history books talk about or we -read. This film is everything we would want to know and watching it we can dive into a time when these visionaries molded the history of our country." 'Phule' narrates the trials and victories of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule as they engendered a social movement against caste discrimination and gender inequality. From establishing India's first school for girls in Pune in 1848 to their revolutionary efforts to promote education and social reform under British colonial rule, the 'Phules' story is all about indomitable faith and preparedness for change in a then-rural Indian societal milieu. The poster for the film was unveiled last year on Jyotirao Phule's 196th birth anniversary and received tremendous recognition, exhilarated the excitement audiences have for the cinematic re-telling of their lives. Talking about the film's releases, Patralekhaa said: "It's a great honor for me to play Savitribai Phule in this film. It was she along with her husband Jyotirao Phule who laid the very foundation for modern education and social equality in India. On her birth anniversary today, it is most fitting that we announce the release of Phule. May the audiences witness their inspirational story on the big screen soon and, hopefully, be touched by their indomitable spirit, courage, and vision." "Ours has been one film where, in keeping with the historical truths, our canvas broadens within a call to recognize the sacrifices and values that continue to make our society framework. The core of the film is a call to extricate the sacrifices and values that define our society even today," added Mahadevan.
