The prize distribution for the 25th annual writing competition organized by the Mumbai Mitra newspaper group was organized on Sunday. Fifty-one winners of competitions like essay writing, poetry writing, story writing, and Ganpati pandal decoration received their awards from MLA Dr Bharati Lavekar in a glittering ceremony.
A host of political leaders from North Mumbai including BJP Mumbai general secretary Sunilji Rane, BJP Mumbai secretary Vinod Shelar, Goregaon MLA Vidyatai Thakur, first mayor of Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Raju Patil and former corporator Kamlesh Yadav. As an early celebration of World Theatre Day which falls on March 27, a play titled “Kshitijacha Palikade” enacted by child artists, directed by Varsha Rane that gave the message against bullying and about forming new friendships was also staged during the ceremony.
While inaugurating the event, Patil spoke about how editor of the Mumbai Mitra group Anagha Rane and group editor Abhijeet Rane are inspiring young people through their four newspapers in Marathi and Hindi. Vidyatai also recalled her first meeting with the group editor during her first election campaign in 1992 when Abhijeet Rane was a child. They all expressed pride about what the group and the Rane family has been able to do for the marginalised communities in the twenty five years of the newspapers’ existence.
Sunil Rane ji also remembered Bhagat Singh as Sunday was his death anniversary, exhorting the youngsters present to have similar love for the country.
