Kapil Sharma – the King of Comedy – is once again winning the hearts of the audience. His show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, is making waves on Netflix. • You have been associated with The Kapil Sharma Show for a long time. How has this journey been for you?

It has been an extremely special experience for me. The kind of show that people long to watch live even once, I get to watch every week, from the closest and most special seat possible. Sharing the stage with Kapil, Sunil, Krishna, and Kiku feels nothing short of a blessing. We’ve been together for the past 15–17 years, and the bond we share in this journey is truly unmatched. When Kapil started, no one imagined the show would make such history. It has completely changed the course of Indian comedy.

  • Netflix has been releasing some amazing shows. How has your experience with them been so far?

The Netflix team, especially their women-led team, is incredibly inspiring. They are the trendsetters of modern India. The courage, professionalism, and vision they have shown is commendable. Our show has been watched in almost 200 countries and stayed in the Top 10 for six weeks, which is huge. My bond with Netflix is very strong, and I consider myself lucky to have been given this opportunity.

  • Sometimes you may not be in the best mood, yet you still have to go on set. What’s your secret to keeping your smile and laughter intact?

There have been many occasions when I was upset or grieving – in fact, even on the day my mother-in-law passed away, I had to shoot. But let me tell you, the moment the camera turns on, the lights come up, and Kapil walks on stage, there’s a special kind of magic. You can’t help but laugh in that atmosphere. Kapil’s show is a kind of therapy that eases your inner pain. That’s why, when people say they were depressed but smiled after watching our show, I feel that bringing joy to people’s faces is the real job.

  • Kapil often jokingly says You’ve taken over Sidhu Ji’s chair. Now that you both share the stage sometimes, how is the equation?

It’s great. People took it too seriously when they thought I “snatched” the chair, but that wasn’t the case at all. It was an unfortunate time for him, and that’s how I got the chance. Then people started liking me in the role. Now that Sidhu Ji is back too, our rapport has only gotten better. We joke a lot backstage and have immense respect for each other.

  • Who is the one person on the show that can make you laugh no matter what – Kapil, Kiku, Krishna, or Sunil Grover?

It’s hard to name just one because all four are essential. The proof is that the only ones who’ve lasted all these years on this stage are Kapil, Kiku, Krishna, and Sunil. Some days, Sunil’s act makes me laugh to tears. Other days, Krishna steals the show. Sometimes, Kiku works his magic. And Kapil is always brilliant. I can’t pick one, because together, they make the show special.

  • Do you believe comedy is actually the most challenging art form?

Yes, I believe this 101%. If it were easy, every other actor could do it. Drama or normal acting can still be managed, but even the finest actors often fail at comedy. Comedy is a gift from the Almighty – you have to understand it and have a natural sense of humor. That’s why sometimes we get comments saying what we do is “God’s work.” Bringing happiness to people’s faces and lighting their hearts is the hardest job there is, and this blessing is given to very few. Those who have it are truly chosen by the Almighty.

  • Your YouTube channel and blog are becoming quite popular. Where did the idea come from?

For years, people told me I should be on YouTube. I didn’t take it very seriously at first, but then there came a time when I felt even the Almighty was giving me signs to start. I’ve worked in TV, theatre, and films – YouTube was the only new thing. So, I began it with my family, and the love people have shown is unbelievable.
