‘RAJNI 2.0’ Returns to DD National, Aradhana Sharma and Karan Razdan Reveal What’s New in the Show

Doordarshan has always shared a deep connection with Indian entertainment, being the first platform where the country watched its earliest serials and films. Now, the beloved 1985 classic Rajni is back as Rajni 2.0, once again airing on DD National. At the press conference, the show’s director and writer Karan Razdan, actress Aradhana Sharma, and Delnaaz Irani were present and spoke openly with the media about the series.

From Rajni to Rajni 2.0 — What Has Changed?

Talking about the show, Karan Razdan said: “The first season of Rajni aired in 1985 and then in 1995. Back then, I played Rajni’s husband — a calm man — while my on-screen wife, Rajni, was very aggressive and fearless. Now, in Rajni 2.0, Rajni’s daughter is out to fix the world. Earlier, the wife corrected the world; now the daughter will do it. The conclusion remains the same — It’s a woman’s world.”
When asked whether the world truly belongs to women, he replied: “Yes, but men and women are made to balance each other. We are equals. We complete one another. Rajni represents that balance.”

On the Family Setup in Rajni 2.0

He added: “In Rajni’s in-laws’ home too, the household is dominated by women — the father-in-law lives with the mother-in-law, the brother-in-law lives with his sister, and her fiancé also stays with them. It’s a female-driven setup. The show is a family entertainer as well as a socially relevant drama.”

Why is the Show Important Today?

“Rajni exists because problems exist. If there were no issues in society, we wouldn’t need Rajni. The government cannot do everything — people need to be aware as well. Through this show, we’re trying to teach viewers what steps to take if they are cheated, so they don’t get cheated again. The show is centred around awareness.”

Why Must the New Generation Watch Rajni 2.0?

Razdan said: “The generation born after the 90s has never seen Rajni. Their parents told them about it, but they never watched the actual show. That is why it was important to keep Rajni’s spirit alive. Thanks to Vasudha, Priya ji, and the entire team, we could revive this legacy — and now I will carry this fight and this ideology forward.”
He added: “Rajni is a brand. In the 90s, people used to say — the girl who stands up and fights is called Rajni.”

Aradhana Sharma Speaks

Talking about her journey from reality shows to Rajni 2.0, Aradhana Sharma said: “I never imagined I would reach here so soon. I am not afraid of rejection. My mother taught me never to stop trying. My father taught me four things — honesty, responsibility, courage and wisdom. I sometimes forget, but eventually I return to the right path. Rajni 2.0 is a dream for me. Shows like this are rare. I can never take this lightly.”

She further said: “I am not just playing Rajni — I am feeling her. Priya ji’s sincerity, her fire, her dedication — I feel all of it. Every girl can connect with her.”

Delnaaz Irani on Being Part of Rajni 2.0

Delnaaz Irani expressed her joy, saying: “I feel truly blessed. I used to watch Rajni in my childhood and loved it. Being part of this iconic show feels like a dream coming true. My character is very interesting — whenever I appear, I bring a storm with me. The script is fantastic, and this Devar–Bhabhi duo will receive a lot of love.”
