Rakul Preet Singh on Shooting, Character, and On-Screen Chemistry in De De Pyaar De 2

Known for her acting in romantic-comedy films, Rakul Preet Singh returns to the big screen with De De Pyaar De 2, released on 14th November. In this film, she stars alongside Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan, and shares the screen with Meezaan Jafri for the first time. Directed by Anshul Sharma, the movie presents a story full of relationships, comedy, and emotions. Recently, Rakul spoke candidly about her character and the shooting experience. Here’s a look at what she shared.

How did it feel to see the audience’s response to the film?

I feel really happy because we make films for the audience, and when they show so much love, it’s very rewarding. After a long time, a film has come out where you can watch it with your family and connect with it, seeing how parents and people react in such situations. When the film is appreciated, it feels like months of hard work have paid off.

With a sequel, fans’ expectations rise. What were your thoughts during this time?

Even though we’re actors, most of the pressure is felt by the director and producers. I believe if you overthink, you can’t focus on your scene. As an actor, my duty is to perform my scene well and focus only on it, then let it go.

Your on-screen chemistry with Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, and Meezaan Jafri is remarkable. How was the off-screen atmosphere during shooting?

Maybe the on-screen chemistry works because both are excellent co-actors. If they don’t make you feel comfortable, your performance can’t be good either. Off-screen, I respect them a lot—not just because they behave well on set but because they create a welcoming and positive environment. Both are huge stars but without any ego, always understanding other actors. After shooting, we often talked about fitness, healthy food, and workouts.

The song ‘3 Shaunk’ is so energetic—how much effort and time went into shooting it?

It took 4–5 days to shoot this song. Our energy was very high, but the temperature was 45 degrees Celsius. The heat was so intense that even doing touch-ups would make us sweat before the action. How we managed to shoot the song in this heat, only we know. The climate was tough, but the song was so much fun, and the whole family was together.

If your character Ayesha could change a decision in her life, which one would it be?

I think it would have been better if Ayesha and Rakul didn’t know each other and didn’t say anything to one another. They are very different. Ayesha is strong-minded, which is absolutely fine, and I feel Ayesha and I share a similarity—we are both stubborn.

Both parts of De De Pyaar De are receiving so much love. Should audiences start waiting for the third part?

We left it open-ended. I would just tell the audience to love De De Pyaar De 2 so much that making a third film becomes inevitable.
