Randeep Hooda reveals: These days, Randeep Hooda is basking in the success of his latest release, Jaat, earning well-deserved praise for his powerful performance. In the film, he portrays the villain 'Ranatunga, ' starring alongside Sunny Deol and Vineet Kumar Singh.
However, amid this success, Randeep recently opened up about a painful experience from his past—something that had left him disheartened.
In a candid conversation on YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Randeep spoke about his 2014 road-drama Highway, where he starred opposite Alia Bhatt. He revealed that he was sidelined during the promotion phase of the film despite playing a significant role.
“This film could have really helped my career back then,” he shared. “Things might’ve been a lot smoother, but that’s not how it turned out.”
What struck him the most was Ranbir Kapoor’s unexpected presence during the promotions. “Ranbir Kapoor wasn’t even in the film, yet he was part of the promotional events. Even I couldn’t understand what his connection to the movie was,” Randeep said.
He added with grace, “Maybe that was when their love story began. And if that moment brought them together, I’m happy for them. I genuinely wish them well.”
Randeep reflected further on the situation, saying, “Maybe in the final few days when the film wasn’t gaining enough traction, they decided to include me. Perhaps the strategy all along was to center everything around Alia. After all, the film did focus on women’s exploitation. But once audiences watched the film, they felt that without Mahabir Bhati (Randeep’s character), it wouldn’t have had the same emotional impact.”
During the conversation, he also mentioned that the same thing had happened to him during the 2010 film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. However, he believes that if you do good work, no one can ignore it.
Highway was a turning point in Alia Bhatt’s career and received critical acclaim, especially for its direction by Imtiaz Ali.
