Randhir Kapoor Love Story: Today, as the legendary actor-director Raj Kapoor’s son and actor-director Randhir Kapoor celebrates his 78th birthday, we take a look at some lesser-known facts about his life. Randhir Kapoor, born on February 15, 1947, in Mumbai, made his debut in the film industry as an actor with the 1971 film Kal Aaj Aur Kal, where he starred alongside actress Babita. The two went on to act together in Jeet in 1972. Later, Randhir and Babita got married, and the couple went on to have two daughters, Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who have become well-known names in the Indian film industry.

However, did you know that Randhir Kapoor never intended to marry Babita initially? He was simply "passing time" with her. He himself revealed this on The Kapil Sharma Show.

During his appearance on the show, Randhir shared details of his love story with Babita, saying, “I was just passing time with her. (Randhir Kapoor Love Story) Then, my father (Raj Kapoor) asked me whether I had any intention of marrying her. I told him I hadn’t thought about it yet, and in anger, he said, 'What will you do when she gets old, will you marry her then?' To be honest, I never proposed to Babita. It was my parents who sent the proposal for me.”

Randhir and Babita married in 1971. However, their marriage faced difficulties, and they started living separately in 1988. Despite this, they never filed for divorce and continued to co-parent their children, sharing all responsibilities together.

Speaking about their separation, Randhir said in an interview that Babita had realized he was a "bad man" who drank a lot and came home late, things she didn't like. He further added, “I didn’t want to live the way she wanted, and she didn’t want to accept me as I was, even though it was a love marriage. As a father, what more could I ask for?”

Randhir Kapoor Love Story: Why Randhir Never Got a Divorce

Randhir explained that despite living separately, Babita remained an important part of his life. They chose to live apart but were never enemies. The couple is often seen together at family events, such as weddings and family dinners. Randhir further added, “Even though we live separately, it hasn’t affected our relationship. As for the divorce, we don’t need to remarry, so we never bothered with it.”

In his 43-year film career, Randhir Kapoor worked in about 24 films. Some of his most memorable films include Jawani Diwani, Haath Ki Safai, Raampur Ka Lakshman, Jeet, Kasme Vaade, Lafange, Humrahi, Ponga pandit, Mama Bhanja, Armaan, Sawal, Pukar, Khazana, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Housefull, Desi Magic, and Super Naani. Randhir Kapoor as a Director

Apart from acting, Randhir Kapoor also worked as a director and producer. He directed his first film Kal Aaj Aur Kal and later went on to direct Henna  (1971), Prem Granth (1996), and  Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999).

Randhir Kapoor was seen publicly on December 14, 2024, at the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of his father, Raj Kapoor, alongside the Kapoor family.
