Suchi Talati's much-awaited directorial debut "Girls Will Be Girls", produced by Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, is all set to premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year. The film will be screened under the Cannes École Juniors category, which is a selection, dedicated to international feature films, that attract young audiences, aged thirteen and older, introducing them to diverse subjects, cultures, and cinematic arts.
'Girls Will Be Girls' produced by Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal to premiere at Cannes after Sundance win.
After its premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, and after making waves by winning the Audience Award in the World Dramatic Entry category and a Special Jury Award for lead actress Preeti Panigrahi at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the film is scheduled to screen on May 22nd and 23rd at the Alexandre III theatre and on May 24th at the Raimu Hall.
Expressing her excitement, Richa Chadha said, “We are thrilled to see ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ reach the Cannes Film Festival. This project is very close to our hearts and the love and recognition it has received so far has been tremendous. Making this film has been an effort of love, and seeing it resonate with audiences globally is incredibly gratifying. We believe in the power of stories, that challenge and inspire, and 'Girls Will Be Girls' does just that. This is a film that explores the complexities of growing up from childhood to adulthood and we can't wait for Cannes audiences to experience it.”
Ali Fazal said, “From the beginning, we knew ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ was a special project, for us, but the response at Sundance was beyond our expectations, and now premiering at Cannes is a true dream come true. Suchi Talati has crafted a beautiful, poignant story that deserves only this platform. We are proud to be a part of a film that not only entertains but also starts important conversations. “This is just the beginning and we are very excited for what is to come.”
"Girls Will Be Girls" is produced by Chadha and Ali Fazal's joint venture Pushing Button Studios, in association with Blink Digital and Dolce Vita Films. This remarkable film is set to enthrall and mesmerize the Cannes audience with its compelling narrative and stellar performances.
