Romiit Raaj Talks About His Journey and the End of Rohit Poddar in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’

Actor Romiit Raaj, who played the character of Rohit Poddar in Star Plus' popular show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, recently bid farewell to the show. In a recent interview with Mayapuri’s journalist Shilpa Patil, Romiit shared his thoughts on his journey, the memories, the co-stars, and the love he received from fans.

Romiit, who portrayed Rohit Poddar, said goodbye to the show as his character met a tragic end in the recent twist. During the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, a bomb blast occurred, resulting in the death of his character. This marked the conclusion of Romiit Raaj's role in the series. In the interview, Romiit reflected on his time on the show, his experience, and how the role shaped his career.

On the Twist and the End of His Character:

Talking about the twist and the end of his character, Romiit Raaj expressed his gratitude for being part of the show. He thanked the makers, especially Rajan Shahi, for giving him the opportunity to work on this project. He also thanked the viewers for embracing him in the role of Rohit Poddar. He mentioned how pleased he was when fans appreciated the bond between his character, Rohit, and Armaan.

Romiit shared that when he first joined the show, his role was intended to be a 3-month cameo. But when it was extended to 9 months, he was overjoyed. He said, “I had a great time working with the team of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Over these 9 months, I developed a family-like bond with everyone. I was told I was leaving, and at first, I didn’t believe it. I thought someone was joking, but it turned out to be true.”

Gratitude for Rajan Shahi and the Special Bond with the Team

Romiit continued to express his deep gratitude for Rajan Shahi, saying, “I think I’ll always be thankful to him. Sometimes in life, we need certain things that are truly special, and when we get them, they become unforgettable moments. These 9 months have been incredibly special for me because this show became my most cherished relationship. It’s truly a blessing to have spent this time on the set with such talented people like Rishi Sir, Ram Sir, and Vishal Sir. Working with them was a special experience.”

Favorite Memories from the Show

Reflecting on his favorite moments, Romiit fondly mentioned the first scene with Ruhi, a scene with Armaan where Rohit Poddar gives his child to Armaan, and the Holi scene where he celebrates with everyone. He mentioned these moments as some of his most cherished scenes.

On His Emotional Farewell

When talking about his final shoot, Romiit became emotional. He recalled how, the day before his last shoot, while on a flight, he started crying while reading his last scene. It dawned on him that it was Rohit Poddar who was leaving the show, not Romiit Raaj.

Response from Fans

Romiit expressed how overwhelmed he was by his fans’ emotional responses. Many fans were applying henna with his character's name on their hands and performing prayers for him, which he found incredibly touching. He said, “The love I received from my fans as Rohit Poddar has been immense. I’ve built such a special bond with you all. The fan edits and photos you share with me mean a lot to me.”
