The destiny of India’s capital, Delhi, has always been linked to the birth of many shining stars. On November 2, 1965, the same cosmic alignment welcomed the arrival of another luminous child. At that time, the news of this birth didn’t make major headlines — but 60 years later, the fact that the same child, now known to the world as King Khan, is turning 60 has become an international celebration in itself.

As the saying goes, “Sixty and still learning!” — and it fits Shah Rukh Khan perfectly. His fans fondly declare, “Picture abhi baaki hai, dost!” Shah Rukh’s connection with cinema, entrepreneurship, and nationalism runs deep, tracing back to his very birth. The environment at home was steeped in patriotism and business-minded thinking. Who could have imagined back then that this little boy would one day illuminate the grand canvas of Indian cinema?

At that time, Shahnawaz Khan, a soldier in the British Indian Army who later joined Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army as a General, was a noted freedom fighter. His adopted daughter, Fatima Latif, and her businessman husband Meer Taj’s son — Abdur Rahman — would one day rise to fame on the Hindi film screen as Shah Rukh Khan. No one could have foreseen that!

Shahnawaz Khan was the very freedom fighter who, when the British decided to leave India, became the first man to lower the Union Jack from Delhi’s Red Fort and hoist the Indian tiranga in its place. Later, he served as a Member of Parliament and Minister in independent India. Raised in his household, his adopted daughter Fatima Latif (Shah Rukh’s mother), who had moved to India from Hyderabad (Pakistan), often said that she was destined to give birth to a star — and she was right. Years later, Shah Rukh himself would say, “We are true nationalists.”

And indeed, this nationalist star carries within him a perfect blend of patriotism and entrepreneurship, perhaps inherited from both his grandfather and his father. Whenever the nation calls, he joins causes selflessly, without seeking publicity. Through his foundations — Meer Foundation, The Earth Foundation, and The Roti Foundation — he continues to serve during times of crisis. Yet, when it comes to business, he is unmatched — a true Baazigar who earned the title “The King of Bollywood.”
