If the mention of Holi conjures up images of a Bollywood star, full of joy and laughter, it's Akshay Kumar. Action hero, fitness icon, disciplined, yet a true family man at heart. For him, Holi isn't just a festival of colors, but a time to relive old, sweet, and bittersweet memories, the innocent joys of childhood with loved ones. Akshay has repeatedly expressed in interviews and social media posts that Holi takes him back to his childhood.

Akshay Kumar Shares Childhood Holi Memories

Akshay Kumar spent his childhood in Delhi and then Mumbai. In an interview for the Holi issue, he shared that Holi in his childhood was no less than a war of color game for him. A week before Holi, Akshay would begin preparing for it. He would save up pocket money and start gathering items for the Holi celebrations. On Holi day, Akshay would get ready with his friends early in the morning. Water guns, colors, balloons, and buckets of water—everything was stocked up in advance. He laughs and recalls that it was his rule to leave no one untouched on Holi. He once said, "On Holi, our entire gang of kids would go out and color anyone we saw. If they were of our age, we all friends would pick them up and dunk them in a dugged pit full of water. No one felt bad on that day."

The most special thing that stood out to Akshay during his time in Delhi was the atmosphere. The aroma of gujiyas, jalebi, kheer, malpua, and many other delicacies wafted from every house. Remembering gujiyas, mathris, and namkeens, Akshay takes a trip back to his childhood days, and the most important of all was thandai. Akshay would prepare thandai with his own hands, and even today, if the mood and atmosphere permitted, he still manages to make it.

Akshay explains that the real fun of Holi in those days was playing pranks with friends. But even more enjoyable was the peace and tranquility of returning home after playing and enjoying the colorful festivities the whole day, and then relishing special Holi food prepared by his mother. Akshay says, "The true joy of the festival is found at home. No matter how much fun you have outside, in the end, sitting with family is the best thing."

Times have changed, life has changed, and Akshay has become a superstar, but his view on Holi remains simple and clear. He often says that Holi should be celebrated from the heart, not just for show. In a Holi message, he wrote, "Some festivals are not just celebrated, but lived. Holi is one of them." This one line clearly reveals his entire perspective. According to him, Holi means forgetting old grudges, embracing, and starting afresh.

Today, when he celebrates Holi with his family, the picture is a little different, but the sentiment remains the same.

Akshay enjoys celebrating every festival with his wife, Twinkle, and children, Aarav and Nitara. His relationship is built on friendship and understanding, and this is clearly evident during festivals. On Holi, the entire family often plays with colors simply at home. He is rarely seen at big film parties. Akshay has often said that he prefers the peace of home over crowds. And because Akshay is health-conscious, he goes to bed early, so he doesn't attend night parties.

On Holi 2021, Akshay shared a cute photo with his little daughter, Nitara. Both of them had light yellow gulal (colourful powder) on their faces and big smiles. It was the time of the coronavirus. In his post, he urged everyone to stay home and celebrate Holi with their families. He also wrote, "No bigger joy than festivities with those who are a part of you." Meaning, there is no greater joy than celebrating festivals with those you love. This line clearly reflects his love for his family.

His son, Aarav Kumar, is now a grown-up young man. Akshay always keeps his children away from the limelight. He believes that children should have the opportunity to live a normal life like any other child. Even on festivals like Holi, he strives to keep the atmosphere at home normal and happy. No loud noise, no big parties and no crowd – just family and friends, some color and lots of laughter.

Twinkle Khanna also frequently shares fun Holi posts. She once shared a video of herself playing a simple holi game with her family, explaining that the joy of any festival lies in the small joys. Akshay Kumar's family truly proves that happiness doesn't require elaborate arrangements.

Akshay is also environmentally conscious. He has repeatedly urged people to celebrate the festival responsibly. Avoid wasting water, avoid chemical colors and respect the wishes of others. He believes that Holi is a festival of joy, not of causing trouble. He says, "Today is not the same as before; it's a time of awareness. so play Holi, but not by harming anyone's health or feelings."

In films too Akshay has danced on holi songs and scenes. Whether it's the fun of the olden days films or modern days cinema, in real life, he prefers simplicity.  If holi arrives during shooting schedules, he greets the entire team with a some splash of color, but always maintains discipline. His habit of waking up early and not abandoning his fitness routine remains intact even during festivals.

From Akshay's perspective, the true meaning of Holi is the connection part. He says, "Holi reminds us that colors are essential in life but work and responsibilities have their own place, in between making time for loved ones is equally important." There's a simplicity in his words that touches the heart.

From childhood mischievous playful holi to today's calm happy color celebrations with his family and friends, it proves that no matter how big a star, a person becomes, festivals always connect them to their roots. Akshay Kumar's Holi is less about competition and more about intimacy. He prefers to be seen laughing with his family on his balcony rather than attending elaborate Holi parties.

If we were to sum up Akshay's thinking in one line, it would perhaps be to repeat what he has said: "Some festivals are not just celebrated, they are lived." And indeed, watching his Holi celebrations, it seems that he lives it wholeheartedly every year—earlier as a mischievous child, and now as a responsible father and husband.
