In his early days as a struggling actor he never used his father's name and influence like many heroes who have relatives in other film industries do which he did not. He would approach producers himself and audition for roles.

On 10 April 2006, he was sentenced to five years in jail for alleged poaching. On April 13, he was granted bail. While he was in jail, people would pray for him, fast for him, come to the jail and give him home-cooked food. People would also try to meet him in jail.
