Star-studded evening at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024

The six-day celebration of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024 commenced on Friday, showcasing a vibrant festival of global cinema, creativity, and culture in Mumbai. On October 18, the critically acclaimed film "All We Imagine As Light," winner of the Cannes Grand Prix 2024, was screened. The festival was inaugurated by interim festival director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and artistic director Deepti D. Kunha.

What is the story of "All We Imagine As Light"?

"All We Imagine As Light" made history as the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in May. It is a Malayalam-Hindi film centered around Prabha (played by Kani Kusruti), a nurse in Mumbai whose life is turned upside down when she receives a rice cooker from her estranged husband. Divya Prabha portrays Anu, her roommate and colleague, who struggles to find a private space in the city to spend time with her boyfriend. Prabha's best friend, Parvati (Chhaya Kadam), a widow, faces eviction from her home due to property developers.

Celebrities Dazzle on the MAMI Film Festival Red Carpet

The MAMI Film Festival witnessed an impressive display of Bollywood stars on the red carpet. Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman graced the event in a stunning peacock saree, radiating beauty. Shabana Azmi also made her presence felt and was honored with an award during the event.

Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar appeared in a light blue saree, while Mrunal Thakur showcased her striking look. Actress Chhaya Kadam, from the film Missing Ladies, was also spotted at the festival. Notable director Kabir Khan attended with his wife, Mini Mathur, while Ira Dubey, known for her role in Dear Zindagi, opted for a white outfit.

The red carpet was further graced by stars like Payal Kapadia, Rana Daggubati, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Hridhu Haroon, Vikramaditya Motwane, Ramesh Sippy, Rohan Sippy, Hansal Mehta, Pratik Gandhi, Abhishek Chaubey, Amole Gupte, Shuchi Talati, Swaand Kirikire, and Jim Sarbh.

Shabana Azmi Receives the Excellence in Cinema Award

Shabana Azmi was honored with the Excellence in Cinema Award for her unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. A special screening of her iconic film "Arth" will be held on October 20, celebrating her contributions to the industry.

Festival to Host Over 110 Films

This six-day festival will feature over 110 films in more than 50 languages, celebrating global cinema, community, creativity, and culture.

The MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024 is set to take place from October 19 to October 24, spanning six exciting days filled with cinematic experiences.
