The much-anticipated war drama Border 2, which is set to arrive in cinemas soon, is not just a film—it is an extension of a legacy of patriotism, bravery, and sacrifice that was laid in 1997. And if there is one strongest pillar of this legacy, it is the name—Sunny Deol.

Just as Sunny Deol immortalized the character of Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in the first Border, his presence in Border 2 once again emerges as the soul of the film. It would not be an exaggeration to say that without Sunny Deol, Border 2 would remain just another war film—but with him, it becomes an emotionally charged saga filled with pride and patriotism.

For years, Sunny Deol has been the definitive face of patriotism in Indian cinema. Border, Gadar, and now Border 2—his performances in these films are not merely acts of performance, but powerful explosions of emotion. This is precisely why he is reportedly the highest-paid star in Border 2, with an estimated fee of around ₹50 crore. This amount is not just a fee—it reflects the trust audiences place in him.

Inspired by ‘Haqeeqat’

During the launch event of Ghar Kab Aaoge, Sunny Deol recalled his father Dharmendra and revealed what inspired him to do a film like Border. He shared that Dharmendra’s 1964 war classic Haqeeqat left a deep impact on him during his childhood. Sunny Deol said,
“When I watched my father’s film Haqeeqat, I was very young, but the film shook me from within. When I became an actor, I decided that I too would do a patriotic film like my father.”
With this thought, he spoke to director J.P. Dutta, and together they decided to make Border—a film that not only won audiences’ hearts but continues to live on in them even today.

A Film That Inspired the Youth

Sunny Deol proudly shared that Border did not remain just a film—it inspired an entire generation of young people to join the Indian Army. He said,
“Wherever I go, I never imagined that we would give so much confidence to so many young people that after watching the film, they would decide to join the armed forces.”

It is worth noting that the 1997 film Border was based on the 1971 India–Pakistan war. The film starred Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Sudesh Berry in key roles. It was directed and produced by J.P. Dutta.
