On November 12, the much-awaited film Kanguva held a press conference in Mumbai, where the film’s lead actor Surya, producer Jayantilal Gada, and director Shiva were in attendance. During the event, Shiva revealed how he chose Bobby Deol for the role of the antagonist and shared his admiration for Bobby’s screen presence, which he has been a fan of since childhood. The Kanguva team also answered media questions, giving fans a glimpse into the making of the film.
Surya's Words of Wisdom
At the start of the press conference, Surya shared a thought-provoking line: “Some say the journey is more important than the destination, while others believe the destination is key. For me, it’s about the journey, the destination, and the company – all three are important.”
Talking about the overwhelming response the film has received, Surya expressed his gratitude, saying, “We’ve received positive reactions from everywhere. Wherever we’ve been, we’ve encountered young people showing interest. In places like Kerala, Hyderabad, and Dubai, we’ve had huge crowds. For instance, in Lulu Mall, where 5,000 people usually gather, there were over 8,000 fans showing up for the film. It gave us a strong emotional connection with them, and we feel like they are a part of our family. We hope to live up to their expectations.”
Surya also spoke fondly of Mumbai, saying, “I feel great here. I can’t say anything bad about Mumbai because it’s my mother-in-law’s home! I’m filled with love, and I’m happy that my children are adjusting well and attending school here. Life is good, and we’re happy with our decision.”
He added, “It’s also wonderful to meet so many people here. If I were in Chennai, I wouldn’t have had this many opportunities for meet-ups. Here, I get to meet many amazing people from the film industry and other fields.”
The South Film Industry's Unique Factor
When asked about the secret behind the South Indian film industry’s success, Surya explained, “The entire cinema world is like one big family. We learn from each other and appreciate each other’s work. Whether it’s the Hindi or South film industry, we’ve come together, and this collaboration has introduced new directors and producers to everyone. In the past, people would mostly watch films on their phones without knowing much about the artists from other industries. But now, due to working together, there’s much more awareness and appreciation for one another’s work.”
Balancing Both Mumbai and Chennai
When questioned if he was receiving more offers from Hindi filmmakers, Surya smiled and replied, “If I were in Chennai, they would still reach out to me. I maintain a balance between both Chennai and Mumbai.”
Surya’s Upcoming Project – 'Karn'
In a special moment, Surya was asked about his involvement in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s epic film Karn. Surya confirmed that discussions were ongoing and said, “We’ve definitely had a meeting about it, and we’re still in talks. This is a film that requires a lot of time and preparation. I hope one day we can take it to the floor and start shooting.”
Director Shiva Talks About Bobby Deol
Director Shiva also spoke about Bobby Deol, praising him not only as a brilliant actor but also as a wonderful person. “I’ve been a huge fan of his work since childhood, especially his films like Gupt and Soldier. I’ve had so much fun working with him on set, and I’ve learned a lot from him,” Shiva said.
Expressing his excitement about the film, Shiva added, “I’m very excited about this project, and I thank God for this opportunity.”
Producer Jayantilal Gada's Insights
Producer Jayantilal Gada shared an interesting anecdote, “Before we even started shooting Kanguva, we had already decided to produce the film. I spoke to my team about it and asked, ‘How many flops has Shiva had?’ They told me, ‘None.’ So, I said, ‘Let’s go ahead and fund the film!’”
A Word from K.E. Gnanavel Raja
K.E. Gnanavel Raja, another key producer of the film, expressed his happiness about being a part of the project. “The love and respect Surya and Shiva have for cinema is the reason this film came together. We’ve received a lot of love from the audience, and ticket bookings are already underway. We’re waiting to see how the audience responds. I’m thrilled to be a part of this film, and I believe it will take the audience to a whole new level.”
‘Kanguva’ is set to release on November 14, and is expected to break box office records. In addition to Surya, the film stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, and is directed by Shiva. Fans are eagerly awaiting the film’s release and the stellar performances of the cast.
