ICONIC Opening Scene:
While we already saw Tanu's flair for the dramatics in the first installment, Tanu Weds Manu Returns took her nakhre to another level altogether. Case in point - Tanu and Manu's confrontation at the mental asylum in London. This is the scene that sets the tone for their dysfunctional relationship and as hilarious as it is, the problems addressed in the conversations were real.
Raja No-Longer Believes in Somvaar Ko Goli Nahi Chalana:
Raja informs Tanu about Manu falling in love with Kusum/Datto, who is already betrothed to Raja. And while talking to Tanu, Raja makes it very clear that, unlike last time, when he did not shoot Manu because it was a Monday and because Tanu loved him, he will shoot him!
Datto's Fire-Power Introduction:
Manu strikes an SRK-style pose, picturing Tanu running into his arms, all thanks to his best friend Pappi’s hopeful words. But reality has other plans. It’s Datto, the fierce athlete, who ends up in his arms… though not quite the way he imagined. His daydream is quickly shattered when Datto aka Kusum jolts him back to reality with her signature Haryanvi no-nonsense adaa.
Datto V/S Tanu (Or Should We Say Kangana V/S Kangana):
While 'Reebok Nahi to Rebuk Hi Sahi' was all the laughs, Tanu insulting Datto was so not cool. But the takeaway here was Datto standing up for herself in a rather powerful face-off. Apart from the writing, Kangana totally nailed both portrayals in this scene.
Tanu's 'Break the Monotony' Advice to Her Sister:
Tanu does what every girl going through an arranged marriage set-up has thought of - to talk back to snarky comments made by the 'ladke wale'. And in this scene, not only does she defy 'society' by walking into the gathering wearing a towel, but also tells her sister point-blank that she does not need to get married out of boredom and that she should chase excitement in life!
10 years later, Tanu Weds Manu Returns still resonates for its bold characters, clever writing, and ability to find humour in heartbreak. It remains a classic that dared to show love in all its flawed, chaotic forms, and we all totally loved it. It’s been a decade, and Tanu and Manu still have us hooked.
