Mohit Shares Insights on Role & Experience in New Film
- The trailer of the film looks impressive, and its songs are trending. First, tell us how you landed this film?
This film is very special for me because it's my first film, and I got the opportunity to work with Abhishek Kapoor, one of my favorite directors. It has always been my dream to work with him, and I never imagined that my first film would be with him. So, I'm super excited. I got this film because Abhishek sir had seen some of my old audition tapes. He then called me for a meeting, where he narrated the character, and after 2-3 more auditions, I landed the role.
- Villain roles are very popular these days. Did you specially prepare for your negative character in this film, and how is it being received?
When I was told about the character, everything was very clear to me. I had no inhibitions because it’s a big film, and I was getting the chance to work with Abhishek Kapoor, so I couldn’t say no. I feel very lucky. People like the character because they appreciate the work, and I think it’s not always necessary to like every negative character. What matters is how the character is portrayed and who is playing it. I am very proud of this film, and I am sure people will love it because it is beautifully shot and has a good story, action, and drama.
- Can you tell us more about your character and how you envision your future after playing this role?
My character is quite different from my real personality, so I worked really hard on it. Abhishek sir is very particular about his characters. He makes sure to focus on every little detail—how the character stands, sits, and speaks. His clarity and vision helped me understand my character better.
- Did you know from the start that Ajay Devgn would be a part of this film?
Yes, I knew from the start that Ajay Devgn would be a part of this film, and that was a huge deal for me. He’s one of my favorite actors, and his performances have always inspired me. The depth he brings to his characters, and the way he brings them to life, is commendable. I’m really fortunate to have the chance to work with him.
- What do you think of Ajay Devgn’s negative role in this film?
I think what matters is who plays the negative character. It's not that negative roles aren’t liked by audiences; in fact, people enjoy these characters as well. I’ve always been a fan of Ajay sir—his films like Gangaajal and Omkara are some of my favorites. He is an exceptional actor.
- How was your first meeting with Ajay Devgn? Did you talk about the film?
No, when I went on set, I was immersed in my character, and he was focused on his work, so we didn’t talk much. However, when I saw him for the first time, I was a little starstruck, but I made sure to stay in character.
- Did you offer any suggestions or inputs during the film’s production?
No, I didn’t give any suggestions. It wasn’t my job. It was Abhishek sir’s work, and he did a great job. He was very clear and specific about how he wanted things done, and he brought out the best in all the actors. It was a physically challenging role for me as my character is from a village, and I come from an urban background. It was a big challenge to portray this for my first film, but I believe I did justice to it. Rashaa also did an amazing job. You wouldn’t even believe this is her first film. I was sometimes stunned at how well she performed.
- What kind of directors would you like to work with in the future?
I would love to work with Vikramaditya Motwane, Shoojit Sircar, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, and Imtiaz Ali. Their work has always inspired me, and I hope to get the chance to work with them someday.
- Do you have a dream role that you would like to play?
I don’t have a dream role per se. I just want to do any role with complete honesty. My dream is to give my 100% to every character I play, understand it deeply, and bring it to life with my effort.
- With so much competition in the industry, especially with actors coming from OTT, TV, and South films, how challenging is it to stay stable and keep moving forward?
Competition has always been there and will continue. As long as you have faith in yourself and keep working on your acting, you won’t face any problems. The key is to keep hustling and working on your craft. Acting is one of the toughest jobs. There are constant rejections, but you have to get up every time and fight again. If you stay persistent and keep working hard, you will make it.
- Lastly, since your film Azaad is releasing on January 17th, what message would you like to give to your audience?
