Tusshar Kapoor's much-awaited horror-comedy film Kapkapiii was released in theatres on May 23. On this special occasion, we spoke to the lead actor, Tusshar Kapoor. In this interview, he shared his feelings about the film, insights into his character, memories of working with the late director Sangeeth Sivan, and his upcoming projects.
Here’s what Kapkapiii actor Tusshar Kapoor had to say:
- How are you feeling as ‘Kapkapiii’ hits theatres today?
I’m really excited about the film, especially because the industry has changed a lot over the past 5–6 years. Promotions often take up all the attention, but this film is special because it was the last wish of our director, Sangeeth Sivanji. He never imagined he’d fall ill. This film is a tribute to him.
- You mentioned that Kapkapiii was the late Sangeeth Sivan’s final film. What was your experience working with him? How do you remember those last moments?
The film was already complete, and dubbing was done. He passed away just a week after my final dubbing session. It was a huge shock for all of us. Now the only way we can bring peace to his soul is by ensuring the film gets a respectful release. If the audience likes it, we’ll feel he’s at peace, wherever he is.
- The trailer of Kapkapiii has received a great response, but many viewers noticed that you weren’t shown much. Why is that?
I didn’t delay things intentionally—it just happened that way. In the last 5–6 years, COVID happened, the production house changed, and a lot more. But since 2023, I’ve decided not to take long breaks. I want to do more films now and enjoy the work without worrying about hits or flops. I want to give back to the audience.
- Your character in Kapkapiii seems quite intriguing. Can you tell us more about how you approached it?
I play a character named Kabir, who joins a group inside a house. He comes there to explore the VG (Visa Game) board but doesn’t actively participate. He’s there for a different reason, but the events take unexpected turns. His behavior confuses the group—sometimes he appears cute, sometimes overconfident, and sometimes lost. This complexity made the character very interesting to play.
- Since Kapkapiii is a horror-comedy, do you personally fear ghosts? Have you had any supernatural experiences?
Not ghosts, but I do fear the unknown. Like everyone else, I heard and shared scary stories with elders during childhood. But personally, I’ve never experienced anything supernatural.
- Any updates on your next film, Welcome to the Jungle?
Ahmed (the director) keeps updating us. It’s a big film, and aligning all the actors’ schedules is a challenge. Hopefully, it will release by the end of this year or early next year. We’re working hard to make it a great film.
- What message would you like to share with your audience?
I just want to say—give this film a chance. It’s a well-made, entertaining movie. It’s true “paisa-vasool” popcorn entertainment and makes for a perfect Friday night outing.
