During her recent visit to the Chembur Durga Puja Association, Vidya was seen immersing herself in the festive spirit of Durga Puja as she looked beautiful in a bright red Banarasi saree with Bengali embellishments. By joining the Durga Puja community of Chembur this time, Vidya remembered the time when at the age of 20, she had her first experience of Durga Puja of Chembur and was mesmerized by the divine presence of Durga Maa. This first darshan touched Vidya's soul deeply, laying the foundation for her everlasting association with the festival. This time when she again stepped into the Durga pandal of Chembur, Vidya said, "As soon as I saw Maa Durga, it felt as if she called me."

Vidya said that she loves wearing a saree. Bengalis wear sarees a lot. Also, a big red bindi on the forehead, open hair, and wedding symbols in the hands - Shakha (white bangle made of conch) and Paula (red bangle made of lac).

Vidya's inclination towards Bengali culture extends far beyond Bengali festivals, to include her love for traditional Bengali attire, delicious bhog prasad, and elegant sarees like Dhakai, Baluchari, and Bengal cotton. Her fascination with Bengali Kantha weaving aesthetics and Bengali intellectual potential reflects her deep appreciation of the cultural richness and beauty that defines Bengali traditions. She said that she also remembers many Bengali songs and poems, one fun-filled poem 'Abol Tabol' is memorized by her.

Vidya said that once she had bought a very beautiful saree for her mother from Godiya Haat in Kolkata for just one hundred and thirty rupees and it is preserved even today.

Vidya Balan's association with Bengal goes beyond her cinematic roles. Vidya worked in many films of Bengali origin like 'Bhalo Theko', 'Kahaani', 'Parineeta'.
