In a historic move for Indian cinema, Women in Film (WIF) India, supported by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B), Government of India, has announced the country’s first women-led delegation to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 4-9, 2025). This landmark initiative positions Indian women filmmakers at the forefront of one of the world’s best influential cinema platforms.(WAVES Bazaar)

The event reflects the Government of India’s commitment to promote women leadership in cinema and expand opportunities for them on the global stage. (Women in cinema) The delegation includes six projects helmed by women in key creative roles, selected through a nationwide competition that received over 200 applications in just one week. (Global film festivals 2025) Entries came from across India, including Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Manipur, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, and Chandigarh. Out of the 23 selected projects, six filmmakers were named winners: Arshali Jose (A Dandelion’s Dream), Deepa Bhatia (Rabbit Hole), Katyayani Kumar (Sons of the River), Madhumita Sundararaman (The Guest House), Paromita Dhar (Ultaa), and Pramati Anand (A Late Autumn Dream).
The final selection was made by a distinguished international jury of producers, cultural leaders, and industry (Women filmmakers TIFF) experts whose combined experience spans Academy Award-winning films, global film markets, and advocacy for women in cinema.(Toronto International Film Festival 2025)
The Ministry-supported programme provides international visibility, mentoring, curated networking and pitching/dealmaking training.
