Why Diwali is ‘maha-lucky’ for evergreen "King" Khan (SRK) ? Dilon-ka-Badshah turns 59 years ‘young’ on (Nov 2nd) auspicious Diwali Day ! by Chaitanya Padukone

Rejuvenated, young-at-heart 'dimpled'  mega-star Shah Rukh Khan (SRK), known for his stylized romance-swag-aura-attitude, will celebrate his 59th birthday this Saturday amidst frenzied ‘live’ adulation of cheering loyal fans! 

On his B'day  the zestful SRK is expected to reveal some more details about his next Hindi action-crime-emotional thriller  'KING" ! Which will introduces his daughter Suhana Khan on the big-screen theatrical cinema.. This movie also has Abhishek Bachchan in a striking role. Mega-movie thriller 'King' is being directed by talented  innovative Sujoy Ghosh ( of 'Kahaani'; and sequel 'Kahaani-2' fame)

Important  to note that Diwali Hindi movie releases have played a very important lucky-mascot role in Shah Rukh-bhai’s acting and as-producer career .  Did you know that ‘Baazigar’, DDLJ, Dil Toh Paagal Hai,  Mohabbatein, Veer Zaara, Don, and even his own home-productions ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Ra One’  all these SRK-hero movies have released on Diwali Day or during Diwali festival and emerged super-hits !

Off-screen, I have known the Brahmaastra, Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki superstar (King Khan) even before his filmy-debut

It was buddy-actor-film-maker star-maker Viveck Vaswani who first introduced me to Shah Rukh as an “upcoming star-material movie-actor”. Those days, TV star SRK (of Circus and Fauji fame) used to stay with Viveck as his P.G.and then later on in rented apartments. SRK proved that he is an off-screen Badshah when purchased and shifted to his own ‘Mannat’ bungalow at Bandra band-stand.

When I interviewed the ‘newcomer’ SRK for his initial movies like Deewana, King Uncle and Hema Malini’s Dil Aashna Hai (for the daily Mumbai city newspaper Mid-Day), he always had that self-confidence, that rebellious gutsy spunk, which in turn motivated him to daringly take on anti-hero negative-shades roles as in Darr and Baazigar, when other macho heroes had apparently developed cold feet and backed out.

What I loved (and sometimes disliked) about SRK was his downright candid and brutally frank nature; at times sprinkled with Scorpio sting-sarcasm. But I must admit that he has always been kind-hearted, articulate, witty, quirky, impulsive and well-versed in the craft of both acting and production-distribution. On his impulsive nature, many years ago, SRK had personally told me that Farah Khan and he were once having fast food at a pizza joint and he saw ‘spicy red chillies’ dangling at a strategic distracting spot. That’s when he got this lightning brainwave and decided to name his banner Red Chillies Entertainment.

Also famous for his bounce-back resilience, the Main Hoon Na and Zero actor used to jokingly tell me ( much before ‘Om Shanti Om )  that my surname ‘Padukone’ was rather difficult to remember. After launching heroine Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om (2007), for obvious reasons, SRK stopped saying that!

Here’s wishing the sentimental bade-dilwale SRK a fabulous celebration time on his B’Day ( Nov 2nd) and  for Diwali 2024 with his family and close friends.

“The genuine adulation--love of millions of my loyal ardent fans and also the prestigious annual Film Awards-Honours-Recognition is what keeps me going ahead to achieve greater glory and success,” said the flamboyant yet modest SRK.when I met some years ago.
