Why doesn't the government give 'Bharat Ratna' to Dadasaheb Phalke?

Dada Saheb Phalke, in whose name many government and non-government honor ceremonies of cinema are organized every year, has not received any honor till now.

The national honor given in the name of Dadasaheb Phalke is a proud decoration for any Indian filmmaker. The first international format of the honor with the same name, DFIFF (Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival 2024) was held on 20th February at Hotel Taj End in Mumbai. Has been completed. From the ceremony, 40 people including Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee took home the trophy named Phalke. There are about eight institutions in Bollywood alone that distribute trophies of honor in the name 'Dada Saheb Phalke'. Have you ever wondered how many honors Phalke Saheb himself has received? Why was Dadasaheb Phalke not given the country's best honor "Bharat Ratna" by the same name as the government gives the country's best cinema honor to cinema workers?

The father of Indian Cinema

Dadasaheb Phalke Award Devika Rani.jpg

Dadasaheb Phalke, who is called the 'Father of Indian Cinema', has a long list of trophy awards in his name. In 1969, a committee for cinema honors was formed in the Parliament of the country, which is operated by the 'Directorate of Film Festival' under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The first Dadasaheb Phalke Award was given to Devika Rani in the year 1969 in a program organized by this first government film honors ceremony. Since then this trend has continued and till now 47 award ceremonies have been held in that name. In 2022, this honor (for 2021, due to the Corona lockdown) was given to senior actress Wahid Rehman.

The first international film festival in the name of Dadasaheb Phalke (Dada Phalke International Film Festival - DFIFF 2024) was held in Mumbai this year, in which Shahrukh Khan received the Phalke Award for Best Actor for Atlee-directed film 'Jawaan'. Every year and this year too, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting honors people from every section of society with "Bharat Ratna", but every time cinema remains out of their sight. The cinema which gives the best entertainment to society, gets the highest tax. Fills it, and it gets released every time. It is a bit surprising how the Modi government has not yet paid close attention to the actions of Dadasaheb Phalke!

The first person who started cinema with a silent film

Dadasaheb Phalke.jpg

Dhundhiraj Govind Phalke, respectfully known as Dadasaheb Phalke, was the first person to create his cinema in India (1913). After living hungry and thirsty, this man's dream was to have his cinema made in our country. After going through a struggle, this man made the first film made in India, 'Raja Harishchandra'. It was a silent film which had no sound. Later, in 1931, following in his footsteps, Ardeshir Irani made India's first talking film 'Alam Ara'. Phalke made 60 Marathi and 20 Hindi films from 1913 to 1920. Some of his films have been - 'Kalia Mardan', 'Shri Krishna Janam', 'Mohini Bhashmasur', 'Lanka Dahan', 'Satyavan Savitri', etc. The land of Maharashtra is the mother of cinema. In honor of Dada Phalke, the Government of Maharashtra has named Mumbai's largest studio Film city as "Dada Saheb Phalke Chitra Nagari". Today the Government of India and many voluntary organizations distribute honors in the name of Phalke. But surprisingly no one thought of honoring Phalke himself! He did not get any respect!

The biggest honor of cinema is given in his name

Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur carefully.jpg

The biggest honor of cinema is the "Dada Saheb Phalke Award" and the biggest honor given by the Government of India is the "Bharat Ratna". Honorable Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur carefully examines the problems of cinema people, we would like to draw his attention towards the father of Indian cinema, Phalke that he should get the respect he deserves. How nice it would have been if Dada Sab Phalke was awarded “Bharat Ratna”! Respect for Phalke means respect for Indian cinema!!
