‘Sikandar’ Conquer: History shows that Sikandar faced defeat in India. When the Greek king, who had conquered much of the world, arrived in India, he was defeated by King Porus near the banks of the Jhelum River. Since 356 BCE, discussions of Sikandar have remained subdued in India. However, in 2025, the name ‘Sikandar’ has once again made headlines. This time, the Sikandar in question is Bollywood’s reigning king, Salman Khan, and the battlefield is not the banks of the Jhelum River, but the multi-space cinema halls of Bollywood—the box office.
Sajid Nadiadwala’s Sikandar Is Not a Historical Film
Let’s make it clear that Sajid Nadiadwala’s Sikandar is not at all related to the historical Sikandar. There is no connection except for the name. The Sikandar on screen (played by Salman Khan) is actually Sanjay, whom his grandmother lovingly calls Sikandar. The story, which is tied to politically motivated underworld situations, must be viewed from a completely different perspective—one that is not related to history but to the present day. The teaser and the first released song, Zohra Jabeen, have already shown that this is purely an action film in Salman Khan’s signature style. The song Zohra Jabeen, which features Salman and Rashmika Mandanna, follows the same formula as Salman’s other successful films. The song, though, is completely different from the iconic song Aye Meri Johra Zabin from the 1965 film Waqt, which was sung by Manna Dey and picturized on Balraj Sahni and Achala Sachdev.
Farah Khan’s choreography in the Johra Zabin song, with 250 background dancers, is designed to appeal to today’s Gen Z audience. This track will undoubtedly be a hit at parties. Fans on social media are already comparing this song to Salman’s earlier tracks like Afghan Jalebi and Jumme Ki Raat. Salman’s fans are calling it “Bhai Ki Eidi” (Bhai’s Eidi), further fueling excitement for the film.
Salman Khan’s Sikandar: A 400 Crore Action Spectacle
Despite the film’s title and its connection to the legendary conqueror, the journey of Salman Khan in Sikandar has had its own set of challenges. The film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala with a budget of 400 crores, began generating buzz in February 2024. On April 10, 2024, Salman Khan announced on social media that he was working with director Murugadoss, and that Sajid Nadiadwala was producing the film. Murugadoss, who had worked with Aamir Khan on the 2008 film Ghajini, had wanted to collaborate with Salman since 2006. Ghajini was a landmark film, being the first to explain the 100-200 crore club in Indian cinema. After years of waiting, Murugadoss and Salman were finally able to come together for this project.
Filming, however, wasn’t without its problems. During the Mumbai shoot, Salman Khan had an accident and injured his ribs, which temporarily halted the production. Then, the situation escalated when the Bishnoi gang attacked Salman’s house and issued threats on his life. Despite these hurdles, filming continued with security arrangements, including some sequences shot at Salman’s home. Finally, Salman confirmed that Sikandar would be released during Eid 2025.
With Eid fast approaching, there’s been some confusion about the exact release date. While it is confirmed that the film will be released during Eid al-Fitr, there are reports suggesting that the date may be shifted by a day or two. Early ticket sales for overseas markets have already begun, with some tickets being sold for March 30, 2025. The film’s official release might even coincide with March 31, 2025, depending on final scheduling.
With the excitement growing among Salman’s fans and the buzz surrounding the film, the question remains—will the name Sikandar, once associated with history, echo as a box-office winner in 2025? Only time will tell if the film can make a resounding impact and become a massive success at the box office.
