Dilip Agarwal, whose Actors Cricket Bash ended recently, is ecstatic at the response the tournament had. He tells JYOTHI VENKATESH that that the next season will be even bigger.
ACB was a successful venture whom you would give the credit for its success?
When an event goes successful, the credit goes to everybody involved in terms of team planning, scheduling and all that stuff. And of course, all the participants who were ready to play and gave their time and everything. A lot of people, who came to watch, were also supporting us so much. It’s not just one person or two people, it’s everybody involved in it makes it a successful event.
Were you expecting Mumbai Aces would win the league?
No, not at all. I didn't expect, I just thought that they were overconfident at one point in time. But unfortunately, Ahmedabad and Delhi these both teams had lost good players as in they were gone away for work and were not able to play the first two games. On the other end, Mumbai was also strong in terms of the captaincy because Sharad Kelkar was amazing. And they were practicing like any professional team would do. The captain really was involved here full time. So, he united the team and they played with full-on heart. They just wanted to go and kill the other team. So I think that attitude also helped them. But yes, I wasn't expecting that Mumbai Aces will win the tournament.
It was genuine cricket and was widely appreciated in terms of the efforts you put in. Comment
I think India loves cricket. They love competitive, good cricket. And in whatever you love, you don't want any other form than the format is supposed to be played in. ACB is real cricket. I have made people realise that TV actors can play this kind of or this level of cricket. I think it's been tremendous. It's been just very good. Got a lot of reviews from everywhere around the country, and maybe a couple of them from abroad also, they loved it. So it's a great thing and I think it’s a big achievement for all of us, even the actors because they have put in a lot of effort into this.
World Cup has started will be following world cup since you love cricket.
Yes, I love cricket, I love to play cricket, I love to make people play cricket but I don't really follow the World Cup on a regular basis. I don’t keep a track of who is winning and losing and all that stuff. Once in a while, I go and watch a match because I think we have a lot of international cricket, IPL just finished and then again we are playing for World Cup. So, after a certain stage, when India comes into quarterfinals or something later on, then my interest grows. Otherwise, I don't really watch it, I just find out the score what is going on and that's it. I don't see who's winning at this point of time and losing because I believe that every team has a chance to come back in the later stages.
Anything else you want to share?
Just be prepared, we are all planning for a bigger season two. And hopefully, we'll be able to announce soon.
