Super-star Akshay Kumar who has also been the social crusader in previous meaningful movies like ‘Toilet-Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘PadMan’ now has this ‘merry’ musical Christmas gift for movie-goers. In the form of this comical yet sensible movie ‘Good Newws’ co-produced by Karan Johar. Since Akshay’s loyal fans and audiences take him quite seriously, won’t the merry mix-up (read swap) of ‘sperms’ in ‘Good Newwz’ generate a sort of skepticism among the janata-audience ? Enlightens the ‘Khiladi’ Kumar, “Something like this can randomly happen , but only once-in-a-blue-moon. Nobody can say that some ‘goof-up’ like this has never taken place. In fact, there are three to four instances, where this has actually happened., “insists Akshay who in ‘Good Newwz’, (directed by talented debutant Raj Mehta) is paired with stunning mascot heroine Kareena Kapoor-Khan, besides the other on-screen-couple Diljit Dosanjh who has charming Kiara Advani playing his wife. Not surprisingly, the vibrant Bhangra-pop song which goes ‘Sauda Khara Khara’ from the movie, has started trending with millions of views. Asked the secret-mantra of his box-office success consistency, the ‘Kesari’ hero explains. “ Frankly, my movies are relatively small-budget, like this movie budget is just Rs 30 crores which gets recovered thru music rights and overseas territory.
So if my less-budget movies, completed on time, manage to rake in even Rs 100 plus crores at the box-office, they are considered huge hits. Wasn’t it a strange syndrome, as to why Akshay has not been working ,of late, with the topmost Bollywood directors. "When big people don’t cast you, you have to start your own journey. I still don't have big directors (directing me). They are ‘producing’ films with me, but they are not directing them. Maybe, actors who deserved it better got it. Karan Johar is there, you should ask him. You should also ask Aditya Chopra. Whoever is the director, I trust the script and the screenplay which I feel tackles 60 per cent of the film-project and the balance 40 per cent is how your director handles it,” shrugs versatile Kumar, who feels that Bollywood lead actors excelling in on-screen comedy should be honoured and given due recognition. “Whether it’s expression-centric or physical ( slap-stick) or situational comedy, making audiences laugh at your own expense is one of the toughest tasks. Many of these Awards nights do not give due credit to excellent comedy performances by lead-actors’, ” signs off Akshay.
