The rising star Vijay Deverakonda is being discussed everywhere! And why he shouldn’t be? he is going to step into the world of bollywood with his upcoming film ‘Liger’. He was very famous in the South but now the whole country is talking about him, and he is talking to Mayapuri! Recently, the 33 year old actor talked about his stardom, struggles and what not!
You are receiving a lot of love right now, every girl wants you, even the most famous chat show (Koffee With Karan) has become all about you. How are you handling so much love and attention?
I am feeling great, but at the same time it has put a lot of pressure on me because I want to do something for all those who love me. when someone gives you so much love, then you should do something for them otherwise it does not feel good.
I never thought that people would give me so much love and that's why I want to give something in return. I don't know how to give it back but I think making a good film is the first step.
You have studied in a boarding school. How was your experience of attending a boarding school and not a normal school?
I was just 6 years old then and used to miss my parents a lot. From class 1 to class 4 I was very homesick but when I went to class 5, I made very good friends, all were like my brothers.
Even today they are my closest friends, I spend all my holidays with them. My school was very strict where every little thing was forbidden, even eating meat was forbidden. We had to get up at 5 o'clock. From the age of 6 to the age of 16, I woke up every day at 5 and slept at 10.
When did you decide that you didn't want to do anything other than acting?
I came back after class 10 and did class 11 and 12 from Hyderabad. All my brothers did B.Com and MBA. My parents also did not know much and my mother is a housewife. I did not know what to study and what my future would be by studying.
Seeing my brothers, I also started my B.Com and when I was doing that I found it very easy. I did not like going to college at all. My hostel and school were very close to each other but when I came to college it was far away.
I had to go by bus every day and the bus used to be very crowded due to which I had to wait more.
I did not even understand the numbers of the bus and I also used to get very angry on the fact that the numbers are written on the bus instead of writing the locations directly.
I didn't go to college and that's when my father got angry one day and he said if you don't want to go to college then don't waste my money and that’s when I told him that I like acting and that he should send me to acting school abroad I knew that he could not afford this, so I said this in anger.
A week after that, my father took me to a theater early in the morning and told me that not abroad, you will learn here and do whatever you want to do. When I started doing theater, I fell in love with acting and that’s when I decided that I want to do it on a bigger level.
Why did you choose 'Liger' for your bollywood debut?
Earlier, I felt that I was not ready to work in a hindi film. It takes a lot of confidence to make a big film for the whole country and to go to every state to meet everyone.
When 2-3 years ago I realized that I am ready to do something big, then I chose it because this film is made for the whole country.
Liger is a story of a boy who runs a tea shop along with his mother but his dreams are very big, to some level it’s like my own story! That’s why I feel that the whole country will relate to this film.
If you ever get a chance to work in a film based on 'Mahabharata', which character would you like to play?
I don't want to play a perfect man, I want to play a character who has a little swag. I want to play the character of 'Karna' in Mahabharata.
How were you treated when you entered the industry?
It was very difficult back then. This world is not kind, you always have to fight for yourself, for every little thing. In the beginning everyone takes you lightly, you are insulted too, but when you rise above after fighting all this, then gradually you get everything you want.
Who are the bollywood actors you really want to work with?
I love Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone. Young girls in the industry also have a lot of talent. I will work with whoever wants to work with me.
