Exclusive Interview with Actress Deepshika Nagpal

I am my biggest critic Deepshikha nagpal tells Jyothi Venkatesh, She plays Lalitha Mishra in Dangal TV's Ranju ki Betiyaan.

publive-imageHow do you feel being in front of a TV camera after a long time?

It's not been a long time, as two years ago I was working for an &TV show. Now I am back with Ranju ki Betiyaan which is on air on Dangal TV.
In this show, my character is different because, in the past usually, I played strong and dominating characters.
But this show is a family drama, not your kitchen politics. It is a relationship between a husband and wife.
Lalita is a Bengali woman who marries into the Mishra family. She lives with her mother and has twin boys.
The character of Lalita is that of a romantic, glamorous woman and the story is a mature love story.
When Lalita got married to Guddu Mishra, she didn't know about his first marriage. Later, when his past comes to haunt him, she puts her foot down and uses any means to save her husband and family.
I don't think she is a negative person as any woman would go to any lengths for her family. And I am happy to play this role as it is something I haven't done before.

publive-imageHow tough or easy was it for you to get into the skin of Lalita's character?

I am learning a lot from Lalita's character. She behaves differently with her husband, her family and in the society.
Yes, it took a little time to completely get into the character, her walk, her gait, her tone.
Luckily, Ayub Khan is playing my husband and since we've known each other since the last two decades, it's comfortable and the chemistry is coming out nicely.
How do you keep alternating between cinema and TV so successfully?
For me, acting is acting whether it is on  big screen or small screen. I have always played my characters with determination.
I see what my role is and that's how I have done things and maybe that's why people love me and I am working and getting the main protagonist roles to this date.

publive-imageYou have been glamorous,ultra-modern but at the same time, I don't remember a role where you have crossed the line and become sleazy or extra erotic. How do you manage that?

I believe being glamorous is an advantage and who doesn't want to be one? If I feel I can carry a short I'll wear but the day I don't feel so I won't.

I am my biggest critic. They were films where there were sleazy scenes but I have got them changed.
I still remember when I did Koyla, people came up to me and said there is a thin line between being glamorous and being cheap and Deepshika you did it very well.
In this process, do you think at times your, Even ended up alienating directors by telling them I will not do such scenes?
I have an experience of almost 25+ years which helps me convince the director, producer.
If I am playing a prostitute, I will sit, talk in a particular manner because that is my character.
But when I feel it's not required, I ask for a justification for it. During narrations, if there is a scene I am not comfortable with, I clearly tell them that I am sorry I can't do it.  publive-image
You have become better not only in cinema but television as well. Tell us about your best role till date?
I feel as of now I haven't gotten that one role which I can say is the best but I loved my movies like Koyla, Rishte, Pyar Mein Twist and so on.
In a span of 25 years, in what way have you grown as an actress?
I feel this phase of my life is the best. I am looking great and getting the best roles performance,maturity-wise.
I think I have seen everything from TV, done plays, daily and weekly soaps, and now web series.
When I work with young actors, I get to learn so much. I am a learner and that's why I am surviving in the industry.
