Vicky Kaushal-Yami Gautam starrer ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ made quite an impression on the audience when it released in January this year and continues to do so. Director Aditya Dhar has finally revealed why he chose the subject
Aditya says that Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and was the reason behind him making the blockbuster.
In a conversation with Robin Bhatt at Vartalap, a Screen Writers Association (SWA) event in Mumbai, Adiya revealed that the ban on Pakistani actors was what fuelled his thought process and led him to make a film on the surgical strike. “I was about to begin shooting a film for Dharma (Productions, production house) which starred Katrina Kaif and Fawad Khan. But the Uri attack happened at that time. The film industry decided to not work with Pakistani actors,” he says, adding, “I thought why not to make a film on Uri attack.”
After researching for six months, Aditya wrote the screenplay in 12 days. When producer Ronnie Screwvala read the script, he agreed to produce it immediately under the banner of RSVP Movies.
And rest, as they say, is history. With 350crs box office collection,
‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ is a hit military action film. It shows a dramatised account of the retaliation to the 2016 Uri attack.
The film also features Paresh Rawal and Mohit Raina in lead roles.
