Bringing the coveted ‘Black Lady’ along with the best of Indian superstars to the state of Assam for the very first time, Filmfare today announced that the prestigious 65th Filmfare Awards 2020 will be held in Guwahati. This landmark announcement was made in the presence of eminent dignitaries from the state that included Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal - Honourable Chief Minister, Govt of Assam, Mr. Chandan Brahma - Honourable Minister for Tourism, Government of Assam, Mr. Vineet Jain - Managing Director, Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited, Mr. Jayanta Malla Baruah - Honourable Chairman, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd,  Dr. M. Angamathu, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of Assam  and Deepak Lamba - CEO of World Wide Media. Taking this association forward, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and The Times Group, organisers of the event.

Over the years, the Filmfare awards have evolved to be the country's longest running and most sought-after awards show. Breaking new ground for the 65th edition of the most-anticipated award ceremonies in the Indian film industry, Filmfare embarks on a new journey in one of the most scenic destinations of our country. In a magnanimous celebration of talent, the gala event will once again bestow the artists of the film fraternity who have put in their hard work and dedication to excel in the field in the year 2019.

Honorable Chief Minister of Assam Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in his address expressed his happiness at selecting Assam as the Venue for  the Filmfare Award for the first time outside Mumbai. He said that this mega event by one of India’s most prestigious media organization would ensure showcasing of Assam as  one of the most attractive tourist destination of the country before billions of people across the world. The MoU signing event is the first milestone of this fruitful partnership.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vineet Jain Managing Director- The Times Group said, “What we are witnessing today is a landmark announcement that sees the Filmfare Awards, one of the longest-running awards in the country, diversify its reach.  Shri Chandan Brahma,  Honorable Tourism Minister of Assam said that a Mega Event like the Filmfare Award in Guwahati could go a long way to change the perception of Assam before the rest  of the country. He also said that the Tourism Industry would greatly benefit through the Global exposure that Assam would derive.

Shri Jayanta Malla Baruah, Hon’ble Chairman,  Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. in his introductory address expressed his gratitude for Shri Vineet Jain, Managing Director, Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited for taking a personal interest  in holding the Filmfare Awards in Guwahati. Shri Baruah also stressed that this Mega event would reach a 2 billion  worldwide reach which could translate into  phenomenal tourist footfalls in the near future.

Earlier Shri M. Angamuthu, IAS,  Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism Department , Government of Assam welcomed the dignitaries present in his brief welcome address and  said that the Tourism Department would provide all necessary support to ensure the success of  the Filmfare Awards.

 Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Deepak Lamba - CE0, Worldwide Media said, “Over the past six decades, Filmfare Awards has established itself as one of the biggest and the most credible awards platform in the country. We are now embarking on a new journey for the black lady - one that will see us hosting the Filmfare awards in awesome Assam for the very first time. We are confident that 2020 will see us chart newer and bigger avenues for scaling entertainment with innovation and creativity in the country."
