Tabla Wizard Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society is coming up with the Mumbai Chapter of the Smritiyaan concert series named ‘Khamma Ghani’, a conversation of traditions.
The Live from the stage will be aired on 18th September 2021 at 7 PM on their official social media accounts.
The concert series aims at bringing happiness in everyone’s lives by drawing upon age-old Indian traditions.
‘Khamma Ghani’, a Rajasthani phrase meaning pass on the good wishes, will witness an exciting line-up of prominent artists like renowned Kathak dancer Kumar Sharma from Jaipur Gharana, Prince of Tabla - Pranshu Chatur Lal who will be seen with his enchanting percussion ensemble, supremely talented Rajasthani folk artists Sawai Khan, and Manganiar Dholak player Latif Khan who will be accompanied by Sarangi artist Mudassir Khan, award-winning vocalist Jai Dadhich, and the young keyboard artists Shivam Sharma.
The evening is surely going to experience some soulful performances as Kathak artist Kumar Sharma brings forward his artistry to an enthralling phase.
He is a national scholarship holder in Kathak from the Ministry of Culture, India. Besides being an extremely talented Kathak dancer, Kumar Sharma is also a talented singer.
He has performed on several duets with AR Rahman. Kumar lends his time and talent to many Bollywood celebrities.
Another performance of the evening to look for is by Pranshu Chatur Lal. The grandson of tabla wizard Late Pandit Chatur Lal, and the son of Pandit Charanjit Chatur Lal.
He has enhanced the level of TABLA as a solo instrument. Pranshu has many accomplishments to his name, one notable achievement was when he was honoured with the ‘Outstanding musician Award’ in Bro.
Bergin Memorial Inter School Music Meet Competition in 2008. He has also been the recipient of “Tabla Ratna Award'', “Tarana Samman Award'', “Tabla Shiromani Award by Orissa Government'', “JMV Global Events Sammaan'', Mangal Dhani Samman Award, “Sa Ma Pa Festival Award'', to name a few.
His accompaniment to the legends like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia and collaborations with Rukmini Vijayakumar, George Brooks, Sooryagayathri, Mohini Dey, Mahesh Raghvan, Rhythn Shaw has been enjoyed as online treats for his fans during the lockdown.
The theme of ‘Khamma Ghani’ is incomplete without the essence of Rajasthani folk. Sawai Khan, a music talent who plays a variety of different instruments.
He has been playing and learning these instruments for over 20 years now. He rose to fame after becoming one of the top 3 finalists in India's Got Talent.
Over the years, Sawai Khan has sung and compiled numerous folk songs in places such as Rajasthan, Udaipur, and Jodhpur.
He will be followed by Latif Khan, a fantastic Manganiar Dholak player, who will be the fourth artist to perform with the 'Smritiyaan Concert Series.
He is the grandson of Late Padma Shri Sakar Khan Manganiar. The musical repertoire performed by Manganiar musicians is both vocal and instrument.
He has toured the continent with his Dholak drum and has performed with numerous diverse musicians and dancers.
Some of his most notable performances include 'Manganiyar Seduction', RIFF Festival, to name a few. With all the percussion, Jai Dadhich will contribute with his melodious vocals.
The magical conversation of tradition will be followed by Mudassir Khan, the 7th generation from the Sarangi family.
He has performed more than 1000 concerts all around the world and has collaborated with Guy Buttery, a South Africa guitarist, as well as Titi Robin, a French composer.
His repertoire includes traditional Indian classical music along with semi-classical and light Western styles.
Jay Dadhich is a mellifluous vocalist having won several awards, including the first prize for “In Sur Aapke Geet Rafi Ke '' - produced by Radio Manav Rachna 107.8 FM in 2015.
He is also National winner of “Sangam Kala Group '' awarded by Sonu Nigam in 2017 as well as a first runner up at Sangeet Milon `Classical Voice of India' in 2014 in Khayal Gayaki.
He was also awarded by Sonu Nigam in the All India Finale of Surtarang. Joining the entire line-up, the young keyboard artist Shivam Sharma will showcase his talent.
Shivam is trained under the blessing of his father Ashok Kumar. He has been performing since he was 9 years old and has proven himself time and again by performing alongside other established Punjabi singers, like Master Saleem and Ninja.
Tabla maestro Pandit Chatur Lal was the first internationally acclaimed Indian Percussionist who popularised the Tabla among the western audiences.
He was one of the doyens to promote and give a grand acceptance of Indian classical music to the West in mid-50’s giving concerts of Indian Classical music.
His granddaughter Ms Shruti ChaturLal Sharma has curated the production who is also the Artistic Director at Pandit Chaturlal Festival and & it is conceptualized by Pranshu Chatur Lal.
Grandson of Pandit Chatur Lal, Pranshu Chatur Lal, who is the conceptualizer of this concept and also known as Prince of Tabla said “The concert theme, ‘Khamma Ghani’ depicts everyone’s happiness by blending together the age-old Indian music tradition.
Each artist will contribute to the overall theme with their unique skill. This concert theme will bring forward the artistry of all musicians on a single stage.”
Shruti ChaturLal Sharma, The Artistic Director of Pandit Chatur Lal Festival and granddaughter of Pandit Chatur Lal, shared, “This exciting concert will feature a range of music, rhythms, movement, and dance from various traditions.
As we have come out of the second wave of the pandemic, this event ‘Khamma Ghani’ is to celebrate happiness and togetherness through various Indian traditions.
