This time around the message is out there, loud and clear. Rohit Shetty is back with the fourth film in the country’s biggest comic franchise Golmaal and this time, he wants you to not use your brain at all (as if we did in the last three films, duh!). Starring Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Kunal Khemmu, Tabu, Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade amongst others, Golmaal Again promises to be bigger and better than ever before but from what we saw in the trailer, it only looks an awful lot brighter and mind-numbingly dumber.
Better known as the undisputed king of family entertainers, Rohit Shetty looks to twist things a bit with the fourth film by adding a touch of horror to the film. But sadly, what happens with the trailer of Golmaal Again is that too many cooks spoil the broth. Though Shetty disses the traditional car crashes in the trailer, there is still a bit too much happening here. The cast keeps getting bigger (Tabu and Neil Nitin Mukesh being the latest additions) but the punches are still the same. The usual song and dance affair finds it way in the middle of a plot that revolves around a spirit and you’re left wondering what is happening here after all! As a result, nothing seems to work for us.
On the other hand, we have seen Rohit Shetty fall prey to lame trailers but delivered films that at least bring out a few senseless laughs. We agree that a big aspect of making a successful comedy film is saving the best punches for the film and Shetty has done that with films like All The Best. But this doesn’t even have enough to instil a sense of excitement. Hence comes the tagline which couldn’t be any truer, Iss Diwali Logic Nahi, Sirf Magic. And we’d be hoping for some magic at least after an extremely lukewarm trailer.
As for the cast, the gang reprises their characters from the previous films and to put it in short, there’s absolutely nothing that comes across as new or fresh. The overload of characters also leads to the new additions, namely Parineeti Chopra, Tabu and Neil Nitin Mukesh getting lost in this sea of madness.
Coming to the business point of view, the cast and crew have been promoting the film left, right and centre, starting from the time the film was announced. And we’re sure the process will only heat up leading up to the film’s release. To top it all, being a Diwali release and facing competition from Advait Chauhan’s Secret Superstar which is most likely to have a very selective audience, there’s no doubt that Golmaal Again will easily rake in the moolah and emerge a box-office success.
All we wish is that it better be worth it!
Produced by Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Filmz and Mangl Murti Films, Golmaal Again hits the screens on 20 October 2017.
