Manish Malhotra: The face of Bollywood fashion

He is a leading designer in the Indian fashion industry, who made a mark in Bollywood with his unique and stylish outfits. Manish's life and career are full of interesting anecdotes that make him not just a designer but a link between fashion and cinema.

Early life and career beginnings

Manish Malhotra was born in Mumbai and his childhood was filled with a fascination for fashion and cinema. He completed his studies at Elphinstone College, Mumbai. Initially, Manish dreamed of becoming a model, but the world of fashion design attracted him more. He started his career as a costume designer, and his first film was "Swarg" (1990). However, he got real recognition in 1995 with the film "Rangeela", where he gave a modern and glamorous look to Urmila Matondkar.

Started her career with a boutique

Manish Malhotra once shared his childhood memories and told how he joined a painting class in the 6th grade, which he enjoyed a lot. Watching movies, painting and being around his mother's saris increased his love for fashion. He even started giving suggestions on his mother's saris.

During his college days, he started modeling and worked in a boutique where he was paid ₹500 a month. This was the beginning of his fashion education as he could not go abroad to study fashion. He taught fashion designing on his own, sitting for hours and making sketches. Finally, at the age of 25, he got his big break when he worked on a Juhi Chawla film. This was a turning point in his career

Contribution to Bollywood

Manish Malhotra has designed costumes for more than 500 films. His style took fashion to new heights in Bollywood. His designs were not limited to clothes only, but he gave a distinct identity to the characters.

Controversial story: Manish designed Rani Mukerji's look for Karan Johar's film "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" in 1998. It was said at the time that her short dress became a trendsetter, but she also faced criticism for it.

International recognition

Manish Malhotra was not limited only to Bollywood.

He designed clothes for Michael Jackson during his India tour. His collections were displayed at prestigious places like Harrods in London. Hollywood stars like Reese Witherspoon and Julia Roberts have also praised his designs.

Contribution to the fashion industry

In 1998 he launched his own brand  "Manish Malhotra". His brand is a mix of traditional and modern designs. Manish's designs have become a trend for Indian wedding fashion
