During my five decades of film journalism and film public relations, I can say and vouch, that RAJKAPOOR was the only person, who greeted everyone with the same smile. I remember three incidents to authenticate it. It was during the Madras filmotsav, that some journalists encountered. We glanced at him and he receprocate it with a smile. Talked to us standing in the hotel lobby. Again at the international film festival in Delhi, I had a chance to see a film with him. In those days press and delegates viewed film together.

Raj Kapoor: The Maestro of Indian Cinema - East India StoryThe Kapoors

It was a screening of a film from a third-world country, dealing with farmers' backgrounds. In a scene, the antagonist enters the female captive room. The moment he did, Raj Kapoor said aaj to gaye yeh. He reacted to films like a common filmgoer. I remember him saying in an interview, that while making films, he focuses only on that man who stands in advance booking line in the early morning to get the first show ticket.

Ram Teri Ganga Maili - WikipediaRemember Rajiv Kapoor's Ram Teri Ganga Maili co-actor Mandakini? Here's what she has been upto – India TV

At the inauguration of the mainstream cinema section of an IFFI, when his film Ram Teri Ganga Meli was the inaugural film, he sarcastically said, "This is the first time, my cinema is felicitated on this platform".He used to fondly say films as 'CINEMA'. The last time I met him was at a National Film function, in which he was honored with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. While going to his seat along with Krishnaji, he has to go in front of the press section. He stopped and received greetings from front sitters. Such a humble person he was. I think only this quality, made him the greatest showman and filmmaker, which he was. Nobody till today has reached the heights, he made to.
