Bollywood's Mr. Perfectionist, actor Aamir Khan, has been in the industry for over five decades. His film career is filled with numerous superhits and all-time blockbusters. But there is something surprising about him that many don’t know.
Aamir Khan, who is now a legendary figure in Bollywood, has worked in many films that have created a huge impact. His son, Junaid Khan, is also stepping into Bollywood, continuing the legacy. Today, Aamir has reached such a level of stardom that it is often said that if an actress has worked with all three Khans (Aamir, Salman, and Shah Rukh), she’s considered one of the top actresses.
But did you know that despite his immense star power and multiple hits, Aamir Khan hasn’t taken any fee for the last 20 years? Yes, you read that right! He himself revealed this in a recent interview.
Aamir Khan's Statement on Not Taking a Salary
In a recent interview with a media platform, Aamir Khan revealed that he doesn’t take a salary for his films. Instead, he makes money by sharing the profits of the movie. He said, “I loved the film Taare Zameen Par, and I cried watching it. I wanted to make this film. The thing that works most in my favor is that I don’t charge a fee based on the film’s budget. My films usually get made for ₹10-20 crore, and they can easily make that amount back.”
He further explained, “Since I make money through the profit-share model, it’s similar to the old method of earning. Artists used to perform on the streets, wearing tilted caps and collecting money from the audience. If people liked it, they could give whatever they felt was fair, and if not, they could leave. Similarly, if my film works, I earn, but if it doesn’t, I don’t earn. I don’t take a salary.”
Aamir Khan’s unique approach of not taking a salary and instead earning from the film’s profit is certainly one of a kind.
