17th Third Eye Asian Film Festival is the only Asian Film Festival that u=is organized in India. On Friday, December 14th, the grand opening of the 17th Third Eye Asian Film Festival was inaugurated by chief guest of event and well-known Marathi film actress and director Mrinal Kulkarni with President of Asian Film Festival Shri. Kiran Shantaram, Director of Asian Film Festival Mr. Sudhir Nandgaonkar, Prabhat chitra Mandal Secretary Shri Santosh Pathare, National Award winning film Kasav and Welcome Home Director Sunil Sukhtankar and Vice President of Federation of Film Society India Mr. Premanand Mazumdar was present in the congregation. Actress Mrinal Kulkarni started the festival by lighting a lamp. 'Welcome Home' was the opening film for Asian film Festival. Dr. Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhanthankar are the directors of the film, among them Mrinal Kulkarni, Sumit Raghavan and Subodh Bhave are the leadcharacters.
As per tradition, every year Third Eye Asian Film Festival gives Satyajit Ray Memorial Award to the outstanding performers in the cinema and cinema related movement. This award is considered as honorary. This year, the Vice President of Federation of Film Society India. Mr. Premendra Mazumdar was honored for his total work on cinema and cinema related movement.
Speaking during the inauguration, President of Asian Film Festival Mr. Kiran Shantaram said: "Asian cinema has grown in the world and we are proud that this is the only Asian Film Festival happen in India. This year total 4 Marathi Cinemas will be showcase in festival. The festival takes place every year because the government has been supporting it from its 1st year, but the monetary help which we are receiving is in the same small amount which we have received in first year and the same amount of monetary help is continued in its 17th year. It’s time that the government should increase the monetary help slightly as in today’s time we cannot even manage our traveling cost of the festival from the help we receive from them. I sincerely thank LIC and Zee Talkies for supporting us this year and we also expect others to come forward and help us and encourage us to continue this festival every year.”
The chief guest of event and well-known Marathi film actress and director Mrinal Kulkarni thanked Asian film festival for selecting Welcome Home as opening film for festival. As well as she thanked the audience in movie theater for a first houseful show with her entire team of welcome home who were present in the theatre . .
Sunil Sukhthankar, director of the National Award winning cinema Kasav and "Welcome Home", said, "Atul Kulkarni's received an award for the Devramani film, which was shown at the Asian Film Festival in 2004, is still a special one for us. In Film Festival organizers show selected best films from Asia and showcase, which film lovers & Film critics sit down and experience together. This is very good process of watching movie as it creates a different bond towards the film as well as I salute to the team that is organizing the Asian Film Festival as its really a tough job to organize such valuable festival. Today our film is an opening film for this festival and hope you film lovers will love our movie. "
At the 17th third eye Asian Film Festival, the audience will be able to enjoy International films and short Film. Arjuna Dutta, Bengali film director of 'Abyakto ' and Shekhar Bapu Rakhkhambe's director of 'Pamplet ' the 30 minute short film will be screened at the Asian film Festival. It is a story of a young man named Indra. His mother Sathi , father, Kaushik and his friend Rudra who is actually his uncle. The mental reactions that Indra has got from the composite relationship of these three persons can be seen in 'Abyakto '.
There is a boy who is free bird as his nature in Shekhar Bapu Rankhabe's 'Pumplet'. He is more interested in flying kites than the study. One person give pamplets in his hand & feared him that If he did not xerox this pamphlet and distribute to others his family experience bad luck for lifetime. This phenomenon is stirring up his emotion, and the 'pamphlet' keeps a finger on on the superstition of society
As well as with these 2, other films which acclaimed in many film festivals which are 'Gochi' (director Priyashankar Ghose) 'Prawns ' (Director Swapnil Shetty), “ The Drainage ” (director Vikrant Ramdas) 'Perceptive' (director Adinath Kothare), 'Behrupia' (director Pankaj Bangde), 'The Knot' (director Pankaj Bangde). also will screen in this festival.
Because of extreme addiction of the mobile, we can see lost his ( actor Nandu Madhav ) lost his connect to world , we can see him in The Drainage. Adinath Kothare has portrayed a different approach to seeing religious celebrations in the 'pemptative . In Gochi , The embarrassment while taking off the wet underwear from the cloth stand, makes its viewers to laugh out loud. ‘
This Year is the birth century year of the legends G.D. Madgulkar, P. L. Deshpande and Sudhir Phadke and having this as occasion, the film 'Pudhcha Paul’ directed by Raja Paranjpe will be showed as the center piece of the festival. The story of the film is written by G. D. Madgulkar and music direction is done by Sudhir Phadke. P. L. Deshpande and G. D. Madgulkar have had played a main role in the film.
