The coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award honour from Govt. of India announced yesterday by the Union I & B minister Prakash Javadekar , for versatile superstar actor Amitabh Bachchan seems to be well-timed. Because this year (2019) happens to the ‘golden jubilee’ (50 years ) of his career, he having made his debut with ‘Saat Hindustani’ in 1969. Responding to the flood of compliments on this ‘maha-khush-khabri’, the unassuming Bachchan-saab responded with his message “There is a paucity of words searching a response .. for the generosity of words that pour in .. I am but deeply grateful and most humbled .. my sincerest gratitude”, he acknowledged. Four times National Award winner for his impeccable performances, the bass-baritone voiced KBC- Sony TV quiz-show host Big B ( also a style-icon) has come a long way from his initial major mega- hits like ‘Bombay To Goa’ and of course ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Deewaar’ and ‘Sholay’ to the recent movies like ‘Piku’ and ‘Badla’. It may be recalled that the music-savvy, benevolent Amitabh-jee was honoured by the film-fraternity in the esteemed presence of thespian legend Dilip Kumar-saab and Saira Banu with the Dadasaheb Phalke Ratna Academy Award in the year 2012 in Mumbai . Which ushered in the onset of the ‘Centenary Year’ grand celebrations of glorious Indian cinema and its star-studded Bollywood film-industry. Incidentally, at this same awards event bolly.com and Mayapuri group eminent senior film journalist- correspondent Chaitanya Padukone was also honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award (2012) at the hands of actress Kajol.
