Actress Hansa Singh says that while the plight of the LGBTQ community has improved, we still have a long way to go. The actress adds that films are helping in this endeavour, but some views drastically need a makeover.

“There is awareness, acceptance is still a long way to go I feel. Once we become more inclusive, it will be good for all. Hope being aware helps. Media is doing its bit about the gay rights. All these films, even Badhai Do, touched the subject very beautifully and emotionally. As emotions are a universal language. Understood by all humans. But society at large acceptance has to be seen,” she says.

Hansa Singh said, LGBTQ community not respected

Hansa Singh adds that today members of this community are at times not respected. “Our society since ages has had the sect of LGBTQ community living among us. During the kingdom’s reigns, they were special as they could only enter the harem. They were spies. But in today’ world with such myopic views towards the community, the situation is sad. We are created by the same universe. We are given our duties to perform in this world. So why look down upon a certain community. They have so much talent. They're brilliant dancers, they are super creative people. Theyare adding so much to society. And they are genuinely good friends. Hope is eternal that India or Indians have bigger hearts,” she says.
Talking about the ongoing pride month, he says, “All across the globe, pride month parades are going on. Teens are aware and that’s where the ethos lies. Aware teenagers can bring change in society. All across the globe it’s the rainbow of pride colours and colours are vibrant. If the rainbow makes you happy, so should the community.”
