Some poets are destined to not get their credit during their life time , in spite of the great work done by them - Ali Peter John
Hasrat Jaipuri was a bus conductor who wrote some of the best romantic poetry while he was distributing tickets on a moving bus , a poet who could write a poem on a female passenger within minutes . He was not going to be a bus conductor for long . His love to write love songs was not going to let him be a bus conductor .
He joined a very sensitive poet called Shailendra and they formed a team and wrote all the songs of Raj Kapoor's "Barsat" and then there was no stopping them . Shailendra wrote the serious and sensitive songs and Hasrat wrote the romantic and light hearted songs , but they could intrude into the area of each other and be equally good .
They wrote together till Shailendra died after producing a very sensitive film like "Teesri Kasam" and died after several heart breaks. Hasrat continued his one man journey to reach a destination where he could finally find love , but however much he tried the true meaning of love eluded him , but he didn't stop his journey to find love till the journey of his life ended .
But his romantic songs are evergreen and they still throb with life and love even after four decades .
On the occasion of Valentine's Day ( I am a great lover , but I refuse to believe in hollow festivals of love like this day ) .
I got in touch with my new friend , Kishwar Jaipuri , the only " darling daughter " of Hasrat , who is the greatest devotee of her dad and his romantic poetry . We talked about her father and his contribution to Hindi cinema and as usual she was growing both emotional and elated.
I kept her in the same spirit and moved that was the flavour of the morning and before they could end one session of our talk on various subjects and the simple and sensitive Kishwar could go into her kitchen , I asked her to give me a list of ten of her favourite romantic songs brought to life by her father . Here are the ten songs of a darling daughter of.a great father
O mehbooba tere dil ke paas hi Hai meri manziley maqsood
Taaron se pyaare dil ke ishaare pyaase Hain to armaan aa mere pyaare.. Mukesh version
Aane kahan Gaye vo din kehtey thhey Teri raah mein nazron ko hum bichhayenge
Raat aur din diya jaley mere mann mein.. Lata ji version
Aisa na hokey in waadiyon mein main kho jaaun
Dil ne pyaar kiya hai ek bewafa se
Khud to badnaam hue humko badnaam kiya
Parda zara hataao aankhein zara milaao to phir koi baat ho
Ye mera prem patra padhkar ke tum naraaz na hona
Dil usey do jo jaan de dey
