Art is not a luxury, but a necessity.

Director Shree Narayan Singh, who is currently basking in the success of his debut directorial, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, seems to be in no mood to take things slow! While his first film tackled the issue of open defecation and lack of toilet facilities in rural areas of India, his next will also be revolving around a social cause and will star none other than Shahid Kapoor.

A little birdie tells us that Narayan’s next is a drama that revolves around the common man’s fight against the electricity distribution companies. And after playing Raja Rawal Ratan Singh in Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor will now play a lawyer in this social issue drama. The movie has been tentatively titled Roshni. The film is expected to go on floors in January 2018.

The news of  Shahid playing a lawyer was confirmed by a Mid-Day report which quoted a source saying, “It’s quite common for people to receive astronomical electricity bills and they don’t know how to verify it. The story revolves around the problem of electricity, that’s why it’s tentatively called Roshni [light]. Shahid plays a lawyer, who raises his voice against this issue. What starts off as a single citizen’s fight soon grows, as the country rallies behind him.”

The source added that the hunt for a female lead is underway, “There’s also a parallel love story. The makers are considering a few top actresses for the role opposite him. The leading lady has a strong role too — she is his friend, who stands beside him in his trying times.”

We have already seen the likes of Amitabh Bachchan (Pink) & Akshay Kumar (Jolly LLB 2) ace characters of a lawyer recently! It seems the competition is tough for our darling Shahid and he’ll really have to pull up his socks for this one!
