23 year old Tara Sutaria born to Himanshu and Tina Sutaria, is an actress and singer, who started her television career as a child artist in 2010 with Disney India's Big Bada Boom and went on to star in the sitcoms The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir and Oye Jassie on the same channel. Tara Sutaria who has been cast opposite Tiger Shroff in Karan Johar’s latest offering Student of The Year 2 is thrilled that she has already acted in the film Marjaavaan and yet another film called RDX 100 is in the offing for her opposite veteran actor Suneil Shetty’s son Ahaan Shetty even before the release of RDV 100, she has been able to make her debut as an actress in films with Karan Johar’s film Student of The Year 2

Was acting always in your mind?

Since the time I was a child of 5 years, I have been into music and dance. I have grown up in arts as I was associated with Disney in India doing musical programmes. I am a singer too. I had always wanted to be a singer and never thought that I‘d one day be a part of a film in Bollywood. I have learnt Western classical music. For 15 years I have been performing on the stage. I am trained in classical ballet, modern dance and Latin American dance. Interestingly, many don't know that I have also crooned tracks in the films Amol Gupte’s Taare Zameen Par, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish and Bejoy Nambiar’s David.

Did you get offers before you bagged Student of The Year 2?

I was offered a bunch of offers when I was still studying in college. When I met Karan Johar, he told me that he was still writing the script of Student of The Year and asked me to wait till it was ready before I jumped at any offer that I was getting outside. He asked me to wait till I graduated. I was lucky that I met Karan at the right time and hey presto bagged the offer when the script was ready.

How happy are that you are making your debut with Student of The Year 2?

I bet you cannot get a better launch than Dharma Product ions with a Karan Johar film directed by Puneet Malhotra. Karan Johar’s vision, eye and taste are such that we are lucky to be part of his film which is our first film

What is your role in the film?

Ananya and I were briefed that as our reference point, we had to keep Betty and Veronica in our minds when we were portraying the roles that we were asked to in the film which has a lot of twist and turns in it. The character that I play is that of Miyah.

Is it true that you missed an international project like Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin by just a whisker?

Yes. I was slated to be part of the international film called Aladdin for producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Erich where I was supposed to play the role of Jasmine with Will Smith. I feel that it is a very exciting time to do cross over films. Though I even went all the way to London to take part in the workshops and train for my part, I do not know why but I did not get selected for the role ultimately but I was lucky that I got to be part of the frame with Will Smith when Karan Johar roped him in for a song sequence of Radha in Student of The Year 2. I do not regret that I lost the Aladdin offer because I bagged Student of The Year. I met the larger than life Wills Smith on the sets of Student of The Year 2 where he danced to the song Radha.

Though your debut film Student of The Year 2 has just been released today, you have already acted in two more films!

Yes. I am lucky because it is not very often that an actor gets to do three films even before his or her first film is released. In my case, I managed to finish my second film Marjaavaan in which Siddharth Malhotra is my leading man even before I completed my first film Student of The Year 2 and will now do my third film next. It is RDX 100 in which Ahaan Shetty, son of Suniel Shetty Sir will be my leading man. It is the remake of a super duper Telugu hit of the same name.

How is Tiger as a co-actor? In what way are Siddharth Malhotra and Ahaan Shetty different?

Tiger is very shy and reserved like I am whereas Siddharth Malhotra is a little more outgoing than both Tiger and I am. Ahaan Shetty is painfully shy. I’d say that all my three co-actors have their own zones and are different from each other but at the same time all of them have their own similarity, style and uniqueness.

What have you learnt from Karan Johar?

The most important thing that I have grasped from Karan Johar is time management. Your own personal life and professional lives get mixed but Karan Johar is probably the busiest person in this business who is managing various tasks with effortless ease. I want to learn multi tasking from him.

Have you also been signed for a contract by Dharma Productions like Yash Raj binds their artistes in to contracts?

Before aligning any film offer that I get, I discuss with Karan because Dharma Productions and my own management decide everything in conjunction whenever I am offered any project.

Marjaavaan

Even before your debut film has been released, you have acted in one film and you are part of one more film. Tell me frankly. As an actor to what extent you feel reviews are important to let you improve yourself?

I’d say frankly that I expect honest and frank reviews from critics when they set out to watch my film because I feel that criticism is always welcome when you are a part of Bollywood. Only if a genuine film critic tells me where my faults are can I improve myself and my acting. Isn’t it?

You are being gossiped a lot and linked to different people every day. How do you react to these rumors?

In the beginning, people were writing a lot about me linking me with Siddharth Malhotra because he is my co-actor in Marjaavaan. I have now realized that it is just a part of my profession.
