I am not comfortable shedding my clothes just to sell a film but it will not be a problem if it justifies my role

In this freewheeling exclusive e-mail interview for bollyy.com and Mayapuri, sprightly and sultry MADHUMITA BISWAS, who is playing the lead in Sakshi slated for release shortly tells JYOTHI VENKATESH that for an actor every film, every role, every opportunity is new and a step forward towards learning process

What is your role in the film Sakshi?
In the film Sakshi I am playing a relationship oriented girl’s character who is very loving, caring, fearless and too serious about her relationship with her partner & can go to extreme madness or beyond her limits to save or protect her loved ones from evil eyes.

How did you find your director Ajay Ram?
It was a time when after getting some experience from small screen i was struggling to start my career in films and was giving quite a lot of auditions when i met Ajay sir who saw even those abilities (major & minor) of mine which i myself have never noticed, & it was something in him i got impressed with and wanted to do his movie and fortunately he chooses me for his film.

Was it tough to be a part of a horror film like Sakshi?
See it’s always a challenge to do a role because every role Has its own specialty and to do it you have to learn something new and keep learning to do it in a better way Which is always a challenge as you have to mould yourself as per the requirement of the character & to do a character in a horror film is one of such challenges.

How was Vikram Mastal as a co-actor?
Since I did my first movie also with him I would say he’s very calm, composed helpful on the sets & always ready to appreciate skills. So I really learnt a lot from him and thankful that I am doing another film with him as now after spending so much of time on the sets I’m very comfortable in working with him.

How has your journey been as an actor till today?
As I mentioned earlier I started from small screen I also use to do print shoots, cameo roles in TV serials then i got a continuity but unfortunately that serial was on air for short period and that was the time when i kept on trying for films (my ultimate goal) And I was fortunate enough to have patience to get my first film Suspense after giving lots of auditions & here i am today giving you an interview for my second big screen movie with few more films lined up.

Are you ready to be a part of a web series?
See for an actor every film, every role, every opportunity is new and a step forward towards learning process and if the character and script is good i will definitely do the web series as it’s a new picked up trend these days so i will take it as an exposure.

Do you have any inhibitions to shed your clothes or do lip locks?
I believe every profession has several things that are part and parcel of it and these things are part of my profession. So obviously I will not feel strange doing it if the script demands. I am not comfortable doing it just to sell the film but will not be a problem if it justifies my role.

Which are the directors in your wish list?
After doing two films with Ajay Sir I really became a fan of his working style so would prioritize him in my wish list followed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali Sir as I love his historical drama movie genres and also Imtiaz Ali Sir’s direction is fabulous. So in general I would love to grab as many opportunities as i can.

Who are your favorite actors and actresses?
Actually i am not very specific in this because everyone has their own ability and i love to learn things from those abilities but yes I admire Deepika Padukone as i love her acting skills & the way she carries herself all the time. I also love the way Ranbir Kapoor gets involved deep into his character & his onscreen presence is so influential.

Which are your future films and any TV serials?
I have lined up few films with me but it’s too early to open up about it and also the movie titles have not yet been finalized but I will surely come up soon on them with time. As for TV serials none is there on the floors as of now.

Is there any scope for actresses in horror films today?
For me it really doesn’t matters what the genre of movie is & it’s all about the story and precisely the character i am playing, how much exposure i am getting, how much more i will be learning from the role so for me there is always a scope for improvement and it just depends on the way you grab it. So yes there is a lot to learn from a role in horror films too.

With which film did you get your break?
Ajay sir’s movie Suspense was my first big screen opener but actually I enjoyed working more in my second film Sakshi as there was much more to perform, to act so i gained more confidence after shooting for Sakshi.

What do you seek in your Mr Right?
Mmmmmmm. My Mr Right should be civilized man in all sense and a one woman man

What is your opinion on casting couch?
I guess patience is the key to get rid of casting couch, if someone is in rush to get work in this industry then there is a lot to face. So one not just has to be careful but also must be patient here.

Are happy with way your career has shaped till date?
I have a habit to stay happy with whatever is going on in my life because i just follow what i learnt “patience and continuous efforts always works” yes Initially sometimes i get frustrated also when i was facing a lot struggle in Mumbai but again my formula worked and here i am giving interview for my second film. So yes I am happy
