"I Get Very Competitive On The Field"- Balraj Syal 

Balraj Syal, who will be playing for the Kolkata Baabu Moshayes in Ekta Kapoor and Anand Mishra’s BCL, and gearing up for the tournament tells JYOTHI VENKATESH that whatever Ekta ma'am starts, it becomes a huge success..

Since how many years you are playing BCL?

I have been playing BCL from the first season. I was playing for Jaipur two seasons and last year, I played for Mumbai Tigers. We went to the semi-finals. This year, I am part of Kolkata Baabu Moshayes. It feels good to be part of MTV BCL.

Do you watch cricket matches as well?

We are a country of more than 100 crores, there are hardly people who haven't watched it. It's a religious feeling to watch cricket.

This year Cricket World Cup is also coming what are the chances of India this time?

This year India is playing really well. Although, we lost the series to Australia, I think with the kind of Indian squad they have announced with the inclusion of K L Rahul and Vijay Shankar, we will be able to score well. I think every Indian knows that ours is the best team and we can make it to the finals.

BCL is a perfect combination of glamour and entertainment what is your take on that.

Nobody ever thought that cricket can be played indoor with women that too with a smiley ball. I think the team who have developed the concept is really great. Sports and TV actors coming together is a great idea. There is fun and entertainment. BCL has raised its standards and the fan following has increased every year.

You are a popular face of TV so people want to see a different side of you in BCL. What should they expect?

I am very competitive when I am on the field. I get so serious. The audiences will see the serious side of me. My team members call me the monitor of the team.

BCL is famous for controversies. What is your take on that?

We are public figures and whatever we do is news. There are differences of opinion on the field and whatever we do it gets the limelight. Controversies happen but once the matches are over, we are friends again. These are healthy fights.

Ekta Kapoor is a visionary be it cricket, TV or films. Share your views

Who would have thought of such an idea? It's a great startup and initiative, it's like a vacation to us and we enjoy it. Hats off to Balaji Telefilms and Marinating films’ Anand Mishra for such a great concept. Whatever Ekta ma'am starts, it becomes a huge success. It's a pleasure to be a part of BCL.
