“I never sung for any films directed by Raj Kapoorji, there is a small connection with him that has played a major role in the achievements that I have earned today” says Alka Yagnik

Zee TV’s popular singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs has been winning hearts courtesy the amazing performances by the wonderful contestants. After celebrating the 80’s era with Bollywood stars like Amol Palekar and Annu Kapoor, the popular reality show is all set to keep the era of classics alive by welcoming another legend of the Hindi film industry, Randhir Kapoor. In the upcoming episode, while the contestants will leave everyone mesmerised with their iconic performances, Randhir Kapoor will be seen revealing some interesting secrets! Joining alongside will be judge Alka Yagnik whose small trip down memory lane left everyone on set surprised.

Hearing the young champs, Saee Joshi and Tanishka Sarkar beautifully croon to the tracks of Raj Kapoor’s films, a nostalgic Alka Yagnik was reminded of the time when the former had played a major role in establishing her career. Revealing further details Alka said, “I never sung for any films directed by Raj Kapoorji but there is a small connection with him that has played a major role in the achievements that I have earned today. When I was about 8-9 years old, Ashok Desai (distributor of RK films) had heard me sing at a get together in Kolkata and he gave me a letter to meet Raj Kapoor ji in Bombay. During my vacations, when we visited RK studios, much to Raj Kapoor ji’s surprise, he heard me sing and handed over another reference letter to be given to Lakshmikant-Pyarelal ji who were composing his songs at that time. Although Lakshmi-Pyare ji were extremely busy and short of time at hand, they heard me sing only because of the recommendation given by Raj Kapoor ji. After that I did numerous projects with them and that connection with Raj Kapoor ji is something I will never forget. I had the good fortune to sing for his granddaughters as well after that.”

During the episode, the special tribute to Rishi Kapoor by the judges and the contestants got Randhir Kapoor very emotional. While contestant Tanishka Sarkar will be seen delivering a spectacular performance to Dafliwale, Zaid Ali’s performance to Hai Agar Dushman will surely win everyone’s heart.
