GAURAV SINGH tells JYOTHI VENKATESH of bollyy.com in this first and exclusive interview of his
What made you take acting as a career?
As a child I was very fond of dance. I was part of many dance dramas too. They were mythological dance dramas in which I always used to play the demon. During Christmas I used to be asked by people in my neighborhood to dress up as a Santa Claus and visit old age homes. Though I use to do all of this for free the kind of joy it brought me was overwhelming. So as a career I chose a job which made me happy and at the same satiated my soul.
Are you not aware that acting is very insecure as a career?
Well I don't see it that way. I think everything is secure or insecure depending on your perception. I feel at home as an actor and that’s most important for me.
Who is your role model in films?
I think as an actor it's important how you conduct yourself both on and off camera.
Mr Amitabh Bachchan is my role model as his integrity, honesty and hard work are Inspiration for me to keep working hard. He is a great human being and an extraordinary actor.

I have done just one Hindi Film -The Last Supper and one Telugu film- Premachittam

Which are the directors in your wish list?
I like the works of Zoya Akhtar, Imtiaz Ali, Meghna Gulzar , Sujeet Sarkar , Anurag Basu, Anurag Kashyap etc.
What is your approach to acting? Do you believe in Method or spontaneous acting?
It all depends on the character and my sub conscious mind. For me, it’s a mix of both and a few more things that I have discovered with time. I call them my own method and I feel it’s too early for me to share them.

Well it was an English show. I don't even remember how many times the production house asked me for re auditioning as they were stuck between me and the other actor for this very part. Finally, the channel came in and I was selected.
What is the difference between the stage, television and films?
In every medium you have to believe in what you are doing. I don't find much difference as far as acting is concerned. On stage you have do same scene again and again. To make it fresh and enjoyable you have to motivate yourself and try to discover something new with every show. Television is very technical and exhausting. A film gives you a lot of time to do preparation for each scene and the outcome is great.

It is a movie based on extra marital affair directed by Sanjeev Mahapatro, with Rajesh Jais, Aishwarya Sharma. I have an illicit affair with a married woman. My character is very self conscious which makes it funny and relatable.

Well. Why Not? If the character demands it, I am game. My character should feel at home with exposing but will never go nude for the sake of being a part of a soft porn content.
