Health Minister on Friday asked the government to pass a law to make attacks on doctors a non-bailable offence with a minimum 12-year jail term. Here is what these TV actors tell JYOTHI VENKATESH about this.

Doctors are called Gods and they are the ones who have been saving our lives. I feel that people should respect their profession. The law is great which the government has passed, I also feel that there should be strict rules and regulations not only for doctors but for all the professions. You can't kill anybody as you do not have the right to take someone else's life. There should be respect for everybody's professions and limitations in life. Doctors are always there to help us and make sure that we do not fall into any health-related problem as whenever we fall sick, we first go to the doctor. When someone is saving your life, we should value them.

Physical violence should be discouraged and it should be dealt with very strictly. If there are any issues then they should be resolved legally. We should believe in our legal system and try to make it stronger and such action should be taken not only for doctors but for every human being because every life is very precious and important.

I think it's absolutely right because after God, if we ever look upto someone to save our life, then that’s a doctor. An attack on them is equivalent to an attack on God. They study so hard and save lives. We eventually have to understand that they are also humans, there may be mistakes but that's not the intention of a doctor. Having said that, I would also like to say that there are doctors who do not give appointments and misuse their profession and if a doctor is caught doing such things, not treating patients the way they should be treated then they should also get a 12-year jail term because with a great job comes great responsibility. Any attack on a doctor should obviously be condemned and the person should be punished. Doctors should be true to their profession as there are a lot of patients who are not able to get treatment because it's too expensive, medicines are expensive or the doctors don't reach in time so these things should also be looked into.

Hitting doctors when a patient dies have become the norm.I’ve read so many such stories in the past too.But nothing happens, after a few days the issue gradually cools down. But this time, immediate action should be taken by the government. Attacking doctors should definitely be a non-bailable offence. Doctors are humans too, in fact, they are compared to god, why such treatment with them then? Also, people should understand that there are some diseases which cannot be treated. Doctors shouldn’t be held responsible for any such misfortunate deaths. My cousin is a doctor working with Safdarjung hospital, Delhi. I have started keeping a check on her every now and then because of these attacks. Who would have thought that being a doctor would become so scary? People need to open their minds and understand that everything is not in a doctor’s hands and even if a doctor is at fault, they should ask the law to punish them and not take law in their own hands.

If any human being is attacked mercilessly by any other person then it's considered to be as a physical assault. The government and the police should take action and put all of these people into jail regardless of what their reasons are, physical assault is against the law. If you pick up a fight with somebody and you find that they are going to be injured in the process regardless of how many you are, please make sure that you obey the police. The law is going to come after you and if they are not coming after you, it means that there is an issue.

Firstly, I would like to mention that my dad is a doctor and my grandfather was a doctor too. I have been always hearing this that patients attacked a doctor because they consider it to be their mistake in case someone dies. I don't understand why don't normal people use their brains and think? Why would they want to take the life of a patient? Because they churn out their days and nights altogether whenever they have a serious case. And the reason why I am saying this is because I have personally seen the life of a doctor. I know how hardworking doctors are. They spending less time with their family and devote maximum of their time to their patients and visiting hospitals. And I think every human makes mistakes. And no matter how much effort a doctor puts in but the will of God is the ultimate decision for all of us. And I think any doctor would purposely do something like this. I completely support this decision made by the government. If we claim that doctors are god, they should be treated equally. Of course, if a loved person dies in a family, it is one of the most devastating things for all the people of that family. But, why do they take the law in their hands, be it, anyone. Even the cops, in our countries, hit the common citizens but in the abroad countries, they are not allowed to touch anyone.

Firstly, people who use their conscience don't attack. I have personally seen patients and their relatives getting into verbal spats. But attacking someone is a major issue, you can't take the law in your hand. The trauma that patients family goes through is understandable. But you still can't take the law into your own hands. Secondly, it doesn't come under the ethics and principles of humanity. And, what is the use of getting into all this? If someone has lost someone but by doing this you won't get him or her back. The outrage and frustration helps nobody, nowhere. And I genuinely support the law that has been passed. It is highly required because doctors are not magicians. If the patient doesn't trust the doctor then how come the outcome will be positive. And it is the doctor's duty and they know it better.

I'm shocked. Why do people take the jurisdiction for granted? Doctors are human beings too. They don't possess any supernatural power so that they can cure the patients immediately. They try their best and make efforts to save their patient's life. I can understand that the situation of the family and relatives must be very bad at that time. But becoming volatile will give not benefit them in any way. And, I support the law which has been passed by the government. Also, if any doctor is found guilty or is doing something wrong, he should be severely punished.

Attacking someone will not help you to reach to a solution. A doctor cannot do anything against nature. They try their best but hitting someone is really bad. But then, the law which has been passed should be applicable to both the ends. There should be proper rectification, before coming to any conclusion. Many times even doctors can be at fault or vice-versa. So, the law involve a proper investigation before declaring someone guilty. Proper justice should be done for the person to whom wrong has been done.

Doctors are the ones who save our lives. When one fall sick or meet with any kind of accident, the first person who we think of is a good doctor. Such doctors are being attacked by people these days. I feel this is really disgraceful and strict actions shall be taken against this. Such activities cannot be tolerated. Our health minister asked the government to pass a law to make attacks on doctors a non-bailable offence with a minimum 12-year jail term. I support this and the government shall approve such laws to prevent these kinds of heinous activities.

Why only Doctors? Each and every life is as important as human life. Whether they are doctors or engineers, that is a profession. But an attack on anyone in such a merciless way is something very uncalled for. As far as the law goes, this cannot be a social media trial so the law has its own course. In fact, the union minister’s rule in trying to pass a law that makes this a non-bailable offense is completely welcome. I feel that fear has to be generated in these people. But in general, society needs to be restructured. Education should be given more importance. People should understand each other and respect one's profession.

Our team of doctors in India is one of the best-ranked panels. Doctors are the closest version to god and I’m disheartened to encounter such conditions in our country. I totally concur taking strict measures against any violence towards them. They work for countless hours, and miraculously work for us! There should be a specific legislation passed for this obscene act. The government and every individual of our country should be responsible enough to respect the profession and there commendable contribution to every life.

My mother comes from a family of doctors. I know how my brother had to leave someone's engagement, birthday party because they used to get calls. And if someone from his family is not feeling well, he would still be on calls helping other people. So, I think doctors don't have a life because they have given their life to someone else. Which is a great deal. And because I have grown up watching this. My mother always said this, 'After god, who saves your life? doctors'.  I understand that if a person has a terminal disease, the stress that the family does through is a lot.  And I think this awareness should be spread, especially when a person is dealing with an incurable disease. So not only the patient but the whole family should get some sort of psychological help. I think that will help the patients family to not get aggressive.

I am totally against this fact that people are attacking doctors. Doctors are like gods, they have the power and knowledge to treat and help people come out of their illness. And sometimes I agree that they fail to do so but then we have to remember that they are not exactly gods and expect them to do a miracle and make a dead person alive. But, they are doing their jobs and they are trying their best to save the lives of the patient and that is the oath that they have taken. And measures should be very strict against such heinous attacks. I support the initiative of the union minister completely, and anybody who is caught attacking a doctor should be given this sentence. Doctors should be given protection by the government

I think this mentality of taking the law in your hands has become quite rampant. Maybe, that is because of the fundamentals that we got since our independence. But I have never ever been in favour of that because you cannot destroy someone's property, whether personal or public. or cause harm to someone regardless of whether your cause is justified or not. This rebellion protest should be banned or be put under strict conditions. One cannot take laws in their own hands. And why to hurt the doctors? No human being should be harmed because it clearly means to break the law and I am completely against it. Here only the doctors are being targetted but no human being regardless of whatever profession he is into should be harmed.
