In Memory Of My Dear Chimpoo Urf Rajeev Kapoor - Jyothi Venkatesh

The minute my young friend Priyanka Raina rang me up to break the sad news of the untimely demise of my dear  actor friend Rajeev Kapoor owing to a massive heart today just before i  could have my lunch - Jyothi Venkatesh

Chimpoo was surprised to know that he was recognised for his work in Ram Teri Ganga Maili even after 35 years

publive-imageIt was not at easy for me to have my lunch especially when i started ruminating on how i had gone just a year ago.

All the way to not only Dubai but also Georgia with me to declare open a grand restaurant in Georgia called jimmy jimmy.

In restaurateur, satish shettys posh five star hotel there in memory of his late father Raj Kapoor.

Rajeev was gracious enough to agree to visit Georgia with me and my journalist friend santosh bingarde and spend two days at Dubai and Georgia on the occasion.
As shetty who owns The Peninsula Hotel at Andheri in Mumbai also owns a hotel in both Dubai and Georgia.
Chimpoo was mobbed by young girls in Georgia at the inauguration of the bar jimmy jimmy.
Chimpoo was surprised to know that he was recognised for his work in Ram Teri Ganga Maili even after 35 years and that his father was alive in the hearts of millions of Georgians now as Georgia is now part of Russia.

Chintu and Rajeev used to have a lot of fights

Chimpoo was extremely happy to bask in the glory of all the attention  heaped on him during his two day stay in Georgia, wherever Chimpoo and i went with Santosh during the day.
On my fervent request to him as a friend who has  been knowing him from the good old days as a newcomer when he was Raj Kapoor's favorite laadla.
Chintu and he used to have a lot of fights whenever i used to go to R K Studios
Chimpoo even didnt drink beer in the afternoon at a restaurant where we had gone for lunch  because  he had to be present as the guest of honor in the evening.
The function in the evening went off fabulously and Chimpoo and i went on drinking till the early hours of the morning to celebrate the inauguration of the restaurant in Rajji's name.
The next day we were  back and Chimpoo all the way was e cotedly telling me how he was looking forward to the release of ashutosh gowarikar's next film with him in a key role.
Alas the film of Ashutosh with Chimpoo in the key role may never even be able to see the light of the day ever unless and until a miracle tends to happen. I will miss you dear Chimpoo for ever.
My condolences are with his elder brother Dabboo and his ever smiling manager Shantiji
