1. Take us through your journey with music. How did it begin and how do you think you made it to being one of the most popular Indie Pop bands?

It started off with four of us from different musical backgrounds experimenting with music and trying to come to a common ground.

I think it is just being honest to who we are as people and in our songwriting that has contributed to us being reasonably popular among the independent acts.

It’s every artist’s dream to have their band featured and this recognition that we have achieved was entirely possible because of our fans who write back to us asking for more.

This, I feel gives us the confidence to go out there, produce extraordinary music and perform among large audiences which is the biggest reason which is why our band has gained prominence in the pop music world.

2. What is the biggest leap your band has taken in the journey till now?

The biggest leap would probably be self-producing our own album during the pandemic time, planning our releases, coordinating and being part of the video shoots etc.

3. How did you name this band? What’s the story behind it?

There’s no big story behind it. We needed a name for a band for a show and we sort of stumbled upon this name.

It basically represents the coming together of Indian (chai) and Western (toast) influences in our music. “Ashwin is the Chai and I am the Toast”,saysAchyuth.

4. With the lockdown, live entertainment took a hit. How did you pivot and adapt? How has it been?

We were all in the same state, so it helped. Though live shows halted completely, we continued to write music and produce videos.

It’s been a rewarding learning experience, and the lockdown proved to be a good time to improve our skill sets as musicians.

Considering the growing concern for the situation we are in, it is absolutely necessary to be wary of close contact with people but we hope the live entertainment industry bounces back soon and people can get back to enjoying a live concert without much worry.

5. Tell us about the new music video with &flix. What was the thought / concept?

The concept is trying to clearly explain that It’s not the instrument that you choose, but the path itself that defines your hero journey.

&flix’s music video anthem ‘Awesome in Disguise’ is but a compilation of several acts of unabashed passion and courage that inspire others among us to do better.

Heroes are not meant to be only watched,but rather a beacon of hope guide in times of dilemma and doubt.

The video is an exciting mash up and coming together of a talented bunch of individuals who have carved a niche for themselves excelling in what they are really passionate about.

The music video is a shout out to these people for breaking the monotony and stigma that confines us to live our lives in a certain way.

By showcasing their unique display of skills and art form which is further amplified by the presence of our band members, through the &flix music anthem, we are reaching out to every single one of our viewers watching this and telling them to never underestimate yourself and keep reaching for the stars for you might be surprised at what you’re capable of.

6. Your thoughts on the collaboration with &flix

We had a great time working with the &flix team. We were always fans of superhero movies.

The &flix team heard about some of our previous works and reached out to us to make this anthem. Honestly, it was love at first sight.

After having understood the message that &flix wanted to drive through this association, we were eager to be a part of this.

The challenge that came with it was very exciting especially in a time like this where in the past year we have come across numerous real-life superheroes who have gone above and beyond that what was expected of them.

Writing a superhero anthem was something we had never done before, so it was stepping out of our comfort zones, but the collaboration ended up being very fruitful, and the entire team extended support and were very helpful.

7. How was it working with so many talented artists who have been a superhero in their own fields? How was the experience on set?

This is the first time I was seeing people showcasing extraordinary skills like doing gymnastics in a saree or performing a routine underwater or even skateboarding which has now become a growing trend among urban youths.

In one shot, we were in the background for the artists to perform and I was left speechless when I saw these performers.

It was truly wonderful to see as well as feature alongside these amazing artists who are the best at what they do.

8. Which superhero inspires you / your band and why?

It would be hard to pick one among the thousands that are there and the many new ones that are added everyday. It’s all about the teamwork that makes them superheroes awesome!

9. What’s next in the pipeline for your fans?

You can expect a wave of anticipation and excitement in the coming months. Along with another single due to release in the coming month, we also have the full album of ‘When We Feel Young’ releasing soon.
