AFTER INDIRA GANDHI BIOPIC, VIDYA BALAN ROPED IN FOR GANGSTER DRAMA?

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan has been roped in to play the lead in the biopic of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The film will be an adaptation of journalist Sagarika Ghose's book Indira: India's Most Powerful Prime Minister.

While talking about the advancement, Vidya said;  "I am happy to have acquired the rights to Sagarika Ghose's ‘Indira...', because I have always wanted to play Indira Gandhi. I haven't decided yet whether it should be a film or a web series, but that will take a while anyway."

But, now it seems Vidya has another role into her kitty. As per a report in Mid-Day, the actress has reportedly signed a gangster film by Jyoti Kapur Das. For the uninitiated, Jyoti has previously directed an award-winning short film titled Chutney released in the year 2016.

A leading daily quoted its source saying;  "Set in the murky world of crime, the drama sees the leading lady as a grey character. The role is that of a strong-minded woman who is almost a crime overlord. After Jyoti finished penning the script, Vidya was the first name that came to her mind. Given the kind of author-backed roles that she has done, the actress would be a perfect fit for the character."

The daily added; "The actress also has the Indira Gandhi biopic in the pipeline. It all depends on when she starts the biopic. She is also in talks for another project. But if all goes as planned, the crime drama will go on floors later this year."

When Jyoti was asked about the film, she said; "It would be an absolute dream to work with her, nothing like that is happening just yet."
