Junaid Khan made his entry into the film industry with his incredible acting in Maharaj, which not only won the hearts of the audience but also garnered appreciation from critics. Now, he’s gearing up for his second film Loveyapa, where he’s stepping into a new, exciting character. This film could be a significant milestone in his career, as he takes on a completely different avatar. His growing popularity and the quality of his acting have raised new expectations from both fans and the film industry.
Recently, Mayapuri's journalist Priya Raghvanshi had an exclusive conversation with Junaid Khan about his upcoming film Loveyapa. Here’s what he had to say.
How excited are you about your film Loveyapa?
I’m really excited about Loveyapa. I absolutely loved this film when I first heard the story.
We’ve seen the trailer of Loveyapa, and it has been well-received by the audience. The phone swap concept is quite intriguing. What are your thoughts on it?
I really liked the hook of the story. It all started when the producer, Madhu Mantena, told me just one line of the plot: a boy goes to a girl’s house to talk about marriage, and the girl’s father agrees, but with one condition—they both have to swap their phones. As soon as I heard this, I was immediately excited and decided that I had to do this film. And now, here I am, the hero of this movie, which is about to be released.
Apart from the concept, was there anything else that made you say yes to the film right away?
I was really drawn to the story and the hook. That was the main reason I immediately agreed to be a part of this film.
You’ve worked with Khushi in Loveyapa. How was your experience working with her?
Khushi is a fantastic actor. But I’ll tell you, we were both quite shy initially. I remember our first meeting was in the producer’s office, where we were discussing the film. We were both sitting in a corner like kids in school, and when someone asked us a question, we were giving one or two-word answers. After everything was finalized, we spent about 5-6 weeks rehearsing. On the first day of rehearsal, when she yelled at me, I was a bit confused about how to react. But over time, everything became normal, and we became comfortable with each other.
Since you worked with Khushi in Loveyapa, do you have any funny stories from the set or behind the scenes?
We didn’t shoot together much. We only shot for about 6-7 days together. Most of the time, we shot on the phone since our locations were different—she was at her place, and I was at mine. We would talk on the phone, which took a lot of time. We did 5-6 days of shooting and also 5-6 days of rehearsal. After that, we became friends.
Has there ever been a situation where you were arguing with someone on the phone while shooting, and you said everything that was on your mind?
No, that has never happened.
Your dad is such an exceptional and outstanding actor. Did you seek any help or advice from him during this film?
No, my dad has always let me carve my own path. He doesn’t give unsolicited advice. But if I have a question, I can always ask him, and he has plenty of guidance to offer.
Your debut film Maharaj was a huge success. What are your expectations from Loveyapa?
I’m really excited about Loveyapa. I hope the audience likes it.
Your dad has been a long-time well-wisher and fan of MayaPuri magazine right from the start of his career. Do you have any personal memories connected with MayaPuri?
My father, Aamir ji, once told me that he had always wanted to work with ShriNivas ji. He also shared with me that MayaPuri magazine has always been a platform for showcasing new talent. In fact, he mentioned that MayaPuri had even featured his first interview under the segment 'Aakash Meri Muthi Mein'. What made him even happier was that the magazine had often placed him on its cover page, which was a huge honor for him and something really special.
He also told me that when his film Ghajini released in 2008, the dialogue “Is hafte ki taaza khabar padhie MayaPuri mein, jaane-maane businessman Sanjay Singhania ka upcoming model Kalpana ke saath chakkar” was used. Now, here I am, giving an interview for this very same magazine, and it feels incredibly special to me too.
Has there ever been a time in real life when you swapped phones with someone? If so, what’s the app you’d be most scared to open?
I don’t have much on my phone. I might have some scripts from other producers, but I wouldn’t share my phone with anyone, even if I knew nothing would leak. Honestly, I’m not scared about anything.
Since your movie is relationship-based, what’s your relationship status? The audience would definitely like to know!
Right now, I’m just focused on my work.
Can you share the three apps you use the most?
WhatsApp, Chess.com, and Google Apps.
On behalf of Mayapuri, we wish Junaid Khan and the entire team of Loveyapa the best of luck. We hope the audience heads to the theaters to watch and enjoy this film.
