Commander Karan Saxena: Gurmeet & Iqbal Khan Discuss Characters & Thrills

In this interview with us, they talk about the show and how it captures the attention of the viewers. Gurmeet and Iqbal Khan talk about how they are quite excited and glad to work with each other! The show is a mass-action-thriller.

Gurmeet and Iqbal Khan Excited to Collaborate in Mass-Action-Thriller Show

Commander Karan Saxena is an action thriller and something that the viewers have not seen you doing before. How are fans responding to the trailer?

Gurmeet: The response till now is very positive from their end, the responses are pretty interesting too. The show is very messy, with larger-than-life dialogues and action. The BTS of our action scenes have gone viral too. And it feels good that the audience is accepting the series. It’s going to get released in a few days and we are super excited to see all these reactions as these act as motivators before the release of the show!

Iqbal: The first thing I would like to say is that it is getting out to the audience in such a platform that is accessible to all, and I think that is just mind-blowing! And then our show is free for mobile users! On top of that, our show is a massy-action-thriller! The audience for such shows is quite vast than any other genre. And with that, we have covered all the positive points of a good show which can gain a lot of viewership. We are glad about that and excited for the people to see it.

Gurmeet, when you hear from a director that they couldn’t have thought of any other actor playing Karan Saxena, how does it get to you, how do you react to it?

I actually feel so glad and overwhelmed with that compliment and it is the greatest thing for an actor to get from their director! I am a director's actor always so that is the most important thing for me. I would like to thank Jatin Sir and our producers Hotstar, for giving me this opportunity to play this character. Even during the shoot, in the back of my mind, I was always thinking that I had to give my best performance to date as this character required my full efforts. And this felt like my efforts got to the right path!

Iqbal, now if I talk about you, this show is something very different, the audience never saw in something like this, was it challenging for you to get into character and to endure this as a character and this journey of the show?

As an actor apart from being challenging it was very exciting. I haven’t done anything like this before as you also know, as you guys have seen my work. (Gurmeet adds) We have been his fans from the very beginning when he came to our TV screens our minds were blown seeing him! The way he acted in this series was just commendable! I am always his fan. He is just being kind (Iqbal adds). It was absolutely exciting as I had not done something like this before. Despite the show being a massy one, the one streak of realism it had, and to maintain it was exciting. To give this character a real feel and not get into that typical zone with it was always in my mind! The director was also in sync with me on that and that made all the difference.

We have read out that too, the director gave you a sense of freedom and accepted your views for the character.

I think more than freedom was a relief for me, as when I spoke to him about it for the first time, he also felt the same! That was something great for me.

We are so excited to see you in the show as there is not a lot of you in the trailer.

There are not a lot of good stories, shows, or movies that are made that connect with the audience. How do you think the audience will connect to this show?

Gurmeet: See, this is really not rocket science or anything. The series isn’t something that is not seen before. We made this show because this is something the audience wants to see. The audience is more drawn to series that are massy and larger than life. The box office gets blown off by movies like that. We brought every element of massy and put that in our show. Our show is a great example of that. You will be captivated by it and will wait for the next episode to come.  

Iqbal: Apart from the shooting, I think, the way the show was written is actually amazing. The show was just as amazing on paper as it is on the screen, if not more.

Well, I have heard Gurmeet, you sing the title track of the show. How did that come about?

Yes, that is correct. I got to sing the title track of the show. I never thought that I would be doing so as I am not at all a singer, I can lip-sync well and that’s it. My producer Rajeswar Sir, I don’t know what came on to him, he was behind me for a month to sing the track. I kept on dodging him quite a few times and finally, he caught me! The thing with me is that whatever I get into I try to do the best in that be it anything and I try to do the best. I sound even better with the visuals! Iqbal adds, that the track is actually exceptional it’s not mediocre at all!

Iqbal: Everyone with a mobile and a Hotstar subscription, do watch it, please!

Gurmeet: I am debuting on OTT and I know my fans who have seen me earlier also will watch this show that is coming out on the 8^th of July only on Disney+Hotstar and will be free for mobile users!
